I want to see how VZ's Diamond stacks up to Sprint's. That extra 12 MB ISM might make up for the drop in clockspeed or the halved RAM, but not for both.

Why can't Someone just put out a Touch Diamond like Sprint's with a microSD card slot?!

Where did you find the specs stating the MSM7501A as the Verizon's version CPU? The prelim-specs I've seen mention the MSM7500 (http://www.pdadb.net/index.php?m=specs&id=1365).

HTC doesn't have "2" different phones with the same name.. They have several under the same code name. This search doesn't show all of them, but you get an idea.

ive seen it mentioned too that it will be the same cpu. I've also seen an article that said that sprint and verizon both use the old msm7500 cpu. Heres how i stupidly understand it. The 7501a is basically just a die shrink of the 7500 cpu. Its very very similar in other aspects so maybe people confuse the two. And when you see that Sprint is running this updated cpu at a faster rate and Verizon is running it at the original cpu's rate it makes it appear that Verizon stuck with the old cpu. So the 7501A Cpu can run cooler and with less power because of its smaller size, this lets HTC up the mhz of the chip. i think they just upped the multipler of the fsb by one.


Now Verizon looked at the new cpu and power specs and said, "hey we want the extra battery life we think the unit is powerful enough so keep it at the mhz of the first cpu and maybe up the ram somewhere this will (hopefully) give us an extra 1-? hours of battery while giving us just a small reduction in overall speed"

I hope we can scale the cpu up to 528mhz if we want but if we can why doesnt Verizon? Is CPU scaling not possible?

Also ive seen the embedded cpu that controls the phone is getting double the speed (at least on the sprint model) it looks to be the exact same model cpu but its listed at 278mhz.

Oh Yeah, I am sure if DIAMOND was my only choice of phone. Unfortnatelly I use SD too much to give up the function, that's why I quoted, DIAMOND still not the phone for "ME". Though a beutiful amazing phone, the lack of SD is just a no-no for me. Plus if its true that verizon is only underclocking the processor, I am sure someone will find a way to "fix" that.

Anyway, on this digital era, specially when people are using their PDAs to work and carry information, or even using their phones as a all in one MP3 player, phone, GPS, etc and all... a lack of SD slot is just unforgivable. If you like the idea, I respect that, but for me... sorry... NO WAY!

Also notice, it's a "chip set" not just a CPU.

So compare this in terms to your PC's chip set. IE; when Intel, Nvidia, develop a new chip set. It's the same thing here. A lot more than just speed, size, power consumption, processing power to consider. Memory handling, video output, these little cell phone chip sets are quite a wonder on all they handle.. (they are after all; Pocket PC)

Btw small die means less power consumption, meaning the newer chip set at 65 nm should use less power at a faster clock speed on the Sprint phone, than the 90 nm older chip set on the Verizon phone. So they aren't really saving on power. Also consider it takes a bit longer, ever so slightly on the slower chip set to complete a task, meaning you used more power to do the same functions?

P.S.S. Anyone notice that most of the phones we get only use 40 poly instead of the 96 the chip set can handle.. wonder why the limitation there.. The newer chip sets also allow for USB Host w/o a companion chip even though it doesn't seem to be enabled on the phones. Would be interesting to plug in your external USB storage device to your Phone.. haha

With the Diamond, when you connect you're given the option to connect via ActiveSync or as an external drive. If you chose to connect as a drive, you have access from your PC to the Internal Memory (4GB) area, and can read/write to that area as you would with any other removable drive. It's supposed to be much faster, although I haven't tested it extensively. In casual testing, it did seem to be a noticable improvement.
