Re: Official Telus Diamond Thread

A Tale of TELUS
I was zapped with a huge bill of $1000 when I activated my Diamond without a data plan because I wasn't told that the phone would be connected to their data service as pay-per-use. I was given a credit because I didn't know this and instructed on how to disconnect through Setting - Connections.

What I did not know was that every time you flash a new ROM, it reconnects to the Data Service. I realized this when I saw the Weather updating itself regularly. I then disconnected the data service, but still have a $140 charge for thse few days after I flashed. TELUS won't give me a credit.

BEWARE: new ROMs will reconnect you on a pay-per-use basis if you don't have a Data Plan. I'm using Blue ROM 1.7 for Telus; excellent ROM.

Re: Official Telus Diamond Thread

Umm... you seem to be a bit confused. Flashing a ROM has nothing to do with your plan or how your data is billed. It automatically configures the settings so that your internet will work, it'd be stupid not to as 99% of people have a data plan.

The solution to your problem is to leave your phone plugged into the computer after you flash (so that it uses the computers internet connection) and then go in and remove the connection settings before you start using it.

Not confused, just uninformed. And, after flashing, I did remain connected to the PC. This did not help prevnt the problem; in Connections, the modem setting was still, Telus, with their connect info. Anyway, that's the way it happened to me. Thanks for your input. I'm wondering if flashing a Sprint ROM would eliminate this problem.

Re: Official Telus Diamond Thread

The modem setting is never 'Telus', 'CMDA1x' is the default Telus setting.

As for flashing a Sprint ROM, no, it would not change anything, every ROM is configured to automatically set up a connection, it has nothing to do with Telus.

Hi, I ran in to something similar. I had turned off data, and it had mysteriously turned itself on at some point. This happened twice when I first got the phone after I put a custom ROM on it. I still can't figure out what caused it, but it hasn't happend since.

I'm not sure why anyone would buy a phone like the Diamond in which it's best features depend on a data plan and not subscribe to a plan. If you want a phone/music player there are other less expensive options that won't accidentally end up using data.
When I bought my Diamond Telus was charging $15/mo for the data plan..a real deal.

I don't need on-the-fly data. Which is the specific reason I got a Windows Mobile device. I was thinking about the Blackberry Storm, but the only way to get emails was via data (since it has no wifi and can't sync Outlook emails). So Windows Mobile is perfect for me. I want to be able to read and write emails offline. Also, it has many other features regular phones don't have which I use like syncing Calendar/Notes/Tasks, GPS, tools, games. Love the Diamond so far.

Having said all that, I still wanted to try the data plan, but only the 4MB data plan is "compatible" with my current voice plan. 4MB not enough for data.

What are the features you are referring to that require data?

Great thread TC! Anyone know where else to get your ESN converted? I4digital seemsto be down. I've tried a couple of other sites and they don't work. I keep getting a SPL error from QPST.
