blitz2190 over at xda was able to gain temporary root on the uscc htc desire in adb using some other guides for the evo 4g unlock.

Thanks. I was curious so I also emailed HTC. They also confirmed the 576 so there website was a typo

Rooting the CDMA Desire is going to happen. One of the Unrevoked members said they will be supporting the CDMA version of the Desire in their next release.Here are a few threads i have been following for those who may be interested.

Correct, i was actually in chat with them when the magic happened, and i cooked a rooted stock rom for a USCC user to try out, he is rutted, S-off'd and wide open.

great news, i'm dying to get this USCC crap software off my phone, and the funny part is, i'm a USCC agent. City ID has GOT to go.
