I can say that pretty much everything done on the phone requires a data plan....you can't even use the phone first without a hotmail account.
Wait, will a .live account work?

It has to be a windows live account first to use the phone (like Gmail with Android ).

Personally I don't know why anyone would buy a phone like this with out a data plan.

1. Being cheap or broke - You should not have a phone like this anway because you can't afford it.

2. On Wi-Fi all the time - BS, unless you live in a box and never EVER leave the house, why would you need a phone anway ?

WP7, Android WM 6.5, all are designed for a phone with a internet connection, by not using it, why even bother having one ?

ok and whats so wrong about wanting to be cheap and saving money as opposed to spending everything u got i gather it not all of us are millionaires are even close to it .. i have no idea what the wifi thing is all about cause i only use wifi on my laptop other then that not really much use for it .. i agree every1 needs a data plan with their smartphones but as far as my carrier goes they can kiss my ass cause i ain't paying no extra 10 for something i already pay for it monthly wise as is not digging the add on but oh well i guess i'll cross that bridge when i get to it ..

there are other utilities than just e-mail and sync you know..
back when I had my dell axim, it was actually used as a PDA, not a multimedia device; you dont need the internet to use the device. I can only guess wp7 has similar features

I wouldn't count on it... WP7 does NOT support syncing with Outlook without an exchange server. You can't sync it through WMDC or ActiveSync with your desktop to get your contacts or calendar. You have to use web services.

I didn't believe the news when I heard it, I had to do some reading until I was convinced it was true lol. Not an issue for me, I pay about $10/mo for an Exchange server. But still... not sure why they took that out
