Own a PPC-6700? Read this ASAP!!
I figured I would post this topic to get everyones attention who just looked at the EV-DO Ring Through fix posted by malatesta and never looked back. It has now be discovered that with the install of the fix attached here you can now roam onto other carriers network and use ur data services also! Which I havent tested it yet on the local alltel EV-DO network yet but at my house while on Sprint I get 1bar and Im on 1x (Wilson, N.C. doesnt have EV-DO available as of yet) but I switched to force it to roaming and now I have 2-3 bars and can browse the net. So far the only problems I have noticed is that it appears Direct Push just doesnt push while roaming, but u can manually send and recieve. So I recommend every Sprint PPC6700 owner install this asap. Not sure if this works with verzion or alltel......maybe Mala know more about that?? Anyway guys this truly is a exciting day for me if I can cruise the net and talk on Alltels EV-DO network. (My Apache hasnt ever seen a EV-DO network ) I will test that later and report back.

thats what is sounds like according to mala.....and heres what I have come up with.....
ok so after getting to work...and testing it appears it only stays on 1x service because I can not talk and surf at the same time and speeds appear to be the same. The only advantage I think I'm gonna get is being able to surf on roam and better signal (well I never checked before, just left it on sprint only). I will still be testing tho over the next few days seeing if I can get on evdo, I know Alltel has it in Wilson. Plus I'm on a SERO plan and roaming is included so I can do it...some others may not have that luxury. Heres a couple screenies of the signal difference is on mine. Note that these are with the phone in the exact same spot....and the phone appears to be syncing in the Roaming shot, not sure what happened there it got stuck syncing for like 4 minutes without any new mail or any changes to the ppc. ~mike |
