SPRINT ONLY!PPC-6700 Ring-through Bug/Data Roaming! (FIXED!)

2 Attachment(s)
This is for all ppc-6700s that are POST April 2006 and have the problem where a call cannot come through while using the internet.

UPDATE!: The patch also activates data roaming on the SPRINT PPC-6700

These phones are affected: PRI 1.14_003 and 1.16_003

Thanks for mjreddy for getting and sharing this. It is an UNOFFICIAL patch, so you know the risks involved....!

From luv2chill at pdaphonehome:

If you don't wish to install the entire update (causing you to have to hard reset your device) then you can gain back ring-thru functionality simply by applying the 1.18_003 PRI file with the small files I am attaching to this post in a zip file. There is a PPST.exe app and a Default.ppst PRI file. All you need to do is copy these two files over to your device (either with ActiveSync or via the miniSD card--or perhaps even over your phone's net connection). Then simply run the PPST.exe file from your phone. It will confirm that you want to proceed with the update. Click OK and wait a few seconds. The PRI will update and then the phone will soft reset. After that you should find that ring-thru now functions properly (The caller will hear approx. two rings before the 6700 rings). I tested this 4-5 times, both with streaming WMV files and with Slingbox, and incoming calls rang through every time.

Big D5 10-29-2006 09:22 AM

was there any other fixes if you install the complete update

cac9478 10-29-2006 06:30 PM

Does it work????

schettj 10-29-2006 06:31 PM

Yep - seems so - installed it on two very new phones, no bad side-effects, ring thru now works. Thanks sooo much! I guess I could have waited another couple weeks for the official release, but this has the bennie of no hard reset needed.

sk8boardd 10-30-2006 12:58 PM

im confused where is this file and how do i find out if this work for my 6700

Garrett 10-30-2006 01:09 PM

Does the 1.13_003 PRI have data roaming? I am just trying to figure out if there would be any advantage to installing this on my 6700.

jkfromak 10-30-2006 02:27 PM

Cool man i am loading it right now.

Wideawake 10-30-2006 11:20 PM

ok guys this is a PRI file and data roaming has to do with PRL. Im not sure if this will stick after a hard but it should. I already have this PRI since mines a older phone. The advantage of this is if ur phone is newer then u cant talk on the phone and surf the web @ the same time (just like being in a 1x coverage area) but with this ur newer phone can do both voice and data at the same time. hope this helps.

Correction:

from Luv2Chill
Quote:

PT_Ril_Apac_206301.sa updates the rilphone.dll file on the device. RILphone.dll is part of what allows Windows Mobile to interface with the CDMA radio in the phone (RIL stands for Radio Interface Layer). I do not know specifically what the new version does, but my guess is it's got something to do with data roaming.
More specifically, sheureka (who's no slouch in the 6700 scene) verifies:
Quote:

I just installed only the PRI update and I can confirm that data roaming is now working! I'm roaming on Alltel in Kansas and no longer get "data roaming is prohibited" and the white arrows under the 1x sign are there. I'm actually trying to sling - and am very, very happy that I have EVDO! - sheureka
Others are verifying as well.

There is also this tidbit from Luv2chill:
Quote:

Even more interesting (to those of us with SD cards anyway) is the PP_LockUp_Apac_212705.sa file, which at first glance seems to be an attempt to fix the DSOD issue we've all been battling for a year now. It updates the following files:

ohci.dll
qct.dll
qctusb.dll
rilphone.dll (appears to be the same version as in the ril cab above)
SDMemory.dll

The first three appear to have something to do with the USB subsystem... what's interesting is the last one. I've gone ahead and installed this on my 2.06 ROM... I will put in my minisd card and see if I get any DSODs.

Wideawake 10-31-2006 03:44 PM

well then mala my mistake :) so r u saying this will allow roaming onto other networks evdo?? because that quote of sheureka sounds like it but I may be mistaken again. ;)

from what I understand that's what it allows, actually I think it's both 1x and evdo roaming data.

this interesting in that PRLs might be the end-all when it comes to data roaming, but instead a software update is needed. not sure.

these files are reportedly going to be in the next ROM update.

Wideawake 10-31-2006 03:58 PM

ok if this is true then i should be able to roam onto the local alltel network and use there evdo!?! i will install asap, set it to roam, and go uptown in a bit and test this monkey out!
~mike

Edit:mala the posts says if u don't wanna do the full update then install the pstt or whatever and it will soft reset. so I done that and it worked....but my ? is what did he mean by full update?? sounded like a ROM upgrade maybe?? he did mention it will hard reset the device. the .sa file ur talking about isnt attached just the ppst.exe and default.....where is the file that may fix DSODs?

Wideawake 10-31-2006 04:37 PM

Just to update...I installed this and set to roaming only at my house where I have 1x and 1 bar with sprint. I now can roam with 2-3 bars and data on 1x coming through just fine!! I CANT WAIT TO TRY IT UPTOWN ON ALLTELS EVDO!!! Man today is a truely exciting day 4 me at least. :D I suggest EVERYONE install this!!

What I posted was just the .pri information I guess e.g a couple of files.

Basically, the original file was a lot bigger and had more stuff, and it required a hard-reset so what I posted was something that

a) will fix the ring through
b) not require a hard reset

having said that I'm not too sure exactly what is and what isn't included.

but here is the full file which DOES require a hard-reset  and is 43mb (it's an entire ROM):

Wideawake 10-31-2006 06:42 PM

where did this ROM come from? surely it isnt offical...oh well Im downloading it and gonna flash it and see. :) also to let everyone know I noticed push mail doesnt work when roaming but u can maunally send and recieve.

It's unofficial Sprint.

I don't think there is anything else involved though as the build/AKU numbers are the same as the March ROM

So I don't think there are any goodies...

Do u know the author? I would like to know how he done this from my research it was slim to impossible to build a ROM for the apache (hehe at least for a novice like myself) at least thats what most of my research lead too. and that stinks...I think I may flash it just to see tho. :D

IT_Slave 10-31-2006 07:29 PM

I installed the PPST.exe app and a Default.ppst PRI file and soft reset. I no longer get the "Data Roaming Prohibited" warning but I still cannot data roam. I checked the provider when on roam - 444 - Altell.

My phone specs:
ROM 2.06.00 WWE
Radio 1.12.00
PRL 20222
PRI 1.18_003

I get these errors -

Data Call Failure
Error Code 106
System Error - Sign in Failed

Data Call Failure
Error Code 66
Network Error-Sign in Failed

Cannot Connect - No modem at #777

Do I need to update to 20224 to get the data roaming working.. does the PRL have anything to do with this or is it that Altell in this area has just not updated to reflect the Sprint data roaming agreement??

Any help would be appreciated.

Wideawake 10-31-2006 07:51 PM

nall Im usign an older PRL myself and it works fine. I just installed the ppst.exe.....try installing again and a soft reset....then give it another go. Trust me it works. :D

Wideawake 10-31-2006 08:15 PM

Ok so after installing the full rom the only changes that are made that stick out is that u can do the data roaming. I noticed the Extended Rom version is different but it contains those extra .cabs which contain the fixes. And the Radio image is also updated mine from 1.12.00 to 1.27.00. Oh and the first thing u see when it starts up is the Sprint screen that says "Test Only Not For Sale" hehe. Nice. :thumbleft: I will upload the lockup .cab and whatever others I find useful. ;)
~mike

Wideawake 10-31-2006 08:53 PM

looking over the .cabs more closely.....it says that they where made 8/5/05 which the ROM we currently have the cab files say 8/14/05 which looks like sprint didnt wanna release this or it needed further testing but that just doesnt make any since to me at least.....wonder why that is. All I know it data roaming is sweet. :D

IT_Slave 10-31-2006 09:15 PM

I re-ran PRI1.18_003Update.zip on my phone. I still cannot data roam. I used to get "Data Roaming Prohibited" before I ran PRI 1.18

Now I get these errors -

Data Call Failure
Error Code 106
System Error - Sign in Failed

Data Call Failure
Error Code 66
Network Error-Sign in Failed

Cannot Connect - No modem at #777

I think it has something to do with Altell in my market maybe?? Anybody else having troubles?? Do I need to install the full 43mb rom update??

Wideawake 10-31-2006 09:20 PM

no need in reposting ur errors....this is new and I find it works on mine.....maybe u could try the ROM but its a test ROM and not an offical release. It may also be the network...Im not sure which Im roaming on at this point but Im leaning towards us cellular....once I get to work tonight it should be alltel evdo so I will see if I get any errors.

sparky15_00 11-01-2006 12:40 AM

And there we go... I was using Alltell roaming and connecting fine, using the data service. Gonna test the ring through in a bit... This is sweet.

sparky15_00 11-01-2006 12:45 AM

hmm...
ROM Version 2.06.00 WWE
Radio versio n1.12.00
PRI version 20222
PRI Version 1.18_003

Ring through isn't working.... going straight to voicemail, but I can use data on Alltell's network :P Ah well, one fix at a time...

Wideawake 11-01-2006 12:48 AM

yeah thats what happened to me....I know theres Alltel evdo network here but I seem to be on 1x service while roaming. Its nice to be able to roam and get the net but no evdo :( that stinks....I sure had my hopes up. :) oh well my signal is better while roaming....but no push, again a downside.

specv 11-01-2006 06:36 PM

data roaming is now possible on the device, but if other providers will not allow data roaming you still cant. Sprint is making deals with other providers such as verizon to allow data roaming between both networks.

with this update it allows this to happen providing the carrier also allows it.

hope this helps

Wideawake 11-01-2006 06:42 PM

I wanna know why I cant use alltels evdo :( 1x is fine and all and im use to it....heck Ive never seen ev on mine b4 but I dont see why we can roam on 1x but no evdo.

This was set up by Sprint as punishment for all the people you have taught to know moore than the customer service reps. HAHAH :)

reallyrob 11-02-2006 02:50 AM

WOO HOO!!!! It Works! I am so happy with this find! Thank you so much....I don't know if the roaming is working, but I am just happy for the ring thru! Once again, Thanks! I am learning so much from this forum! You all are great!

reallyrob 11-02-2006 10:37 AM

Just a quick question...This ring thru fix, it won't put NAI on my 6700, will it? I don't want to lose my ability to use my phone as a modem, even through I rarely do it, there have been times that I had to for emergencies like when my cable went out.

Just wondering, Thanks!

schettj 11-02-2006 12:11 PM

Mine rang thru while being used as a modem (sprint) just last night... kinda borks your connection, but you do get the call :D
