bluetooth retail vs oem drivers

I have a targus bluetooth usb connection. with the drivers from targus everything seems to work fine. Now I went to broadcom and updated the drivers (since they are the chip set makers) and loaded their drivers.
It installed the same as targus BUT it also gave me audio playback from the 6700 to the computer AND activesync worked thru bluetooth.
but the bad part was it wouldnt recognize the "bluetooth modem" on the phone.
anyone have a idea whats going on?
Right now i went to the targus drivers. Im thinking of spending 30 or so to get a Newer adapter and see but didnt really want to...
