help with shortcuts

Hi all i need just this quick question answered and that is i was looking through the registry hacks and they all have you go through things like

hkcu\ blahblah blah

My question is how do i get here to change certain things to the Hkey Current User?

Use a registry editor like PHM RegEdit to navigate to those keys. You can download PHM RegEdit here.

HKLM = HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE
HKCU = HKEY_CURRENT_USER
HKCR = HKEY_CLASSES_ROOT
HKU = HKEY_USERS

But for some reason i cant get it to go....i have vista so i think that may be the problem
