Accessing earpiece sound stream

I know this may sound farfetched, but is there a way to access the earpiece? I know very few WM5 devices out there have native support for it. That way phone convos on both ends can be recorded, you can also reroute any system sound through the earpiece. Do our Apache's have hardware limitations from accessing the earpiece, or it is related to some aspect in the ROM?
