Thumbs up don't try to restore contacts from pim.vol from wm5 to wm6

First of all let me thank you guys immensely for all the hard work - phenomenal! I just used BuildOS and Helmi's (et al) kitchen to go from wm5 to 6.1. I do not have Outlook, and backup my contacts, etc. using pim.vol. I am coming to the realization that this is not going to work for this upgrade (Contacts interface won't even open). I use the tasks and calendar as well, but I can live without the tasks, and I use OggSync with Google Calendars (so I am all good there).

The only thing I can think of is to reinstall wm5, replace pim.vol, use a backup utility, re-cook to 6.1, then use utility.
  • Does anyone have experience doing this with a particular utility, or will I likely have the same issue?
  • Is there a simpler way to get the contacts info from my pim.vol into my phone?
---------
UPDATE
Solution was to reinstall OEM wm5, use a backup utility (see below) on the SD card, then re-cook to 6.1, and finally run the backup utility's "restore" function. No issues so far!

Unfortunately, the simpler way would have been to backup everything/contacts before you flashed and then restore.
pim.vol will not work between WM versions and most backup utilities aren't very good at it either. Sprite Backup claims they do, but I've only been partially successful when I've tried.

You solution of re-installing WM5 and doing a backup might work best. I would suggest that instead of doing the full backup and trying to restore, use something like PIMBackup to save all contacts and then restore only contacts when you go back to WM6.

Re: restore contacts from pim.vol?

No, you can't transfer pim.vol between OSs, e.g. WM5 to WM6/6.1. Use the backup utility PIM Bsckup, which installs in both environments:

Re: restore contacts from pim.vol? / Today screen

Success! - used pimbackup 2.8. Still having the today screen issue (another post) and symbol lock issue, but I don't believe these issues are related.

Re: don't try to restore contacts from pim.vol from wm5 to wm6

what about transfering from a 6.1 to a 6.5 using the pim.vol file
