Haven't tried Picsel, so no advice there.

As a diehard Firefox user I really wanted to use Minimo... but it is just not ready for primetime... too many bugs, very slow, and huge (something like 12MB IIRC)... if you are going to use Minimo, you'd best not have any other apps open.

PIE is a lousy excuse for a browser, as everyone here has found out.

Opera Mini is a phone app, not really designed to take advantage of what a PPC is capable of.

The winner? Opera Mobile... hands down. It's the closest thing to a desktop browsing experience. Plus, version 9 will be out soon, which will have AJAX support among other things. It's worth the price.

-PIE (Fast, has some mobile rendering features, but sucks for anything advanced)
-Picsel (not something I have tried since it is not widely available)
-Opera mini (java VM app, not really that easy to use on the Apache since you also need to run a VM)
-Opera Mobile (WM native app with WM5 buttons, fast, renders for mobile well, and supports MOST web standards)
-Deepfish (server side service that pre renders sites as images for mobile use, not going to see it support animated stuff or dynamic stuff as far as I know)
- minimo .2 (supports lots of web standards, slowest app every, largest app ever, interface still needs work, no true mobile formating, UNSTABLE!)

Go Opera Mobile, it is the best over all (supported) experience!

Opera is a great option

another Opera Mobile fan here!

you can scroll by draggin the display (makes browsing much easier)

Tabs

Fast rendering

its not a small install, but even in "handheld" mode i am able to access certain SSL websites i need to for work which dont easily work with PIE.

Cheers!

I'll say this about picsel, I'm passing through Chicago's airport and boingo is offering free wifi for iphone users...well anyhow, I just changed my user agent in picsel from the default picsel browser info to the iphone user agent...and bam free wifi! Picsel just scored major cool points with me.

Just curious, does anyone know if opera is capable of this by chance?

I'm using PIE with ReenSoft's PIEPlus. Gets me everything Opera can do and pages load way faster than the big O. I can drag to scroll, have multiple tabs, plus all the other features. Way cheaper than a full Opera license. Maybe Opera 9 will be better, but for me the slow page loading disqualifies Opera. Maybe other folks don't mind.

Under opera's settings there's a box that says grab and scroll, just make sure that's checked. Then the next time you're browsing the web, just touch your stylus somewhere on a page (mind the links and what not), and it should allow you to scroll without using the scroll bars.
