Pocket PC (Old) Stuck in beggining. Please Help! Have old version.

Ok, I did that yesterday, I installed active sync, restarted, went to bootloader (pressing notes + power button and poking the reset) and then I proceeded to plug in the phone via usb and I stil got the message of the attached deviced malfunctioning. I tried to use active sync to make a connection but it didn't find any device. You guys ever heard of anyone else having this problem? I think I might have found a dead end because without usb connection, I won't be able to flash![
