Please help! VX6700 update problems, possible brick

Ok here's the deal. I just got an HTC apache from my friend last week. It was running Windows Mobile 6.0, but I wanted to reflash to 6.1 to clear out all his settings and give me a fresh start. BTW, I am running Vista Ultimate 64bit. I don't know if that's an issue or not. Anyway, I got BuildOS, cooked up a ROM and started the RUU, but I didn't know about turning off the USB connection in Windows Mobile Device Center. As soon as it started to reflash, the mobile device center stopped responding and disconnected my phone. BuildOS then gave me some sort of error, stopped the update, and my phone was stuck in bootloader mode. Now the weird thing is, I didn't do anything to put it in bootloader mode, and I never reset it; it just went into bootloader and I've never been able to get out of it. Here are some things that are important to know:

-I didn't know what version my phone was. Now I know its v2.02, but I built the ROM with v1.00 selected. Could that be part of it?
-I've tried running MTTY 1.42 to get out of bootloader mode, I can't even get the utility to have USB as an option in the ports menu.
-I tried turning off the USB connection in Windows Mobile Device Center, then tried reflashing, didn't help.
-Whenever I try to reflash, I get error 103.
-Device Manager now only recognizes the phone as Microsoft USB Sync.
-Whenever I plug the USB into the phone, I hear the little chime telling me it is connected, but it doesn't recognize it as any specific device, and the autorun options never pop up.

Is my phone bricked? I sure hope not. I literally had it for two days before it crapped out. If anyone has any input I would be eternally grateful! Thanks!

Re: Please help! VX6700 update problems, possible brick

All of your questions have been answered before. There are guides on this type of thing, so please stop wasting people's time trying to get answers and search. Simpe as that. I myself have wrote guides to flashing. Simply search before going through with things, and most of all before posting asking for help.

If you can't search and such, then you don't need to be modding your phone...

Re: Please help! VX6700 update problems, possible brick

for your information, I have spent about 7 hours total over the last 3 days searching for fixes. Every single one I tried, INCLUDING the ones from this site, and believe it or not, the guide from your sig, DIDN'T HELP! This thread was a last resort to the impossible task of diving through hundreds of other peoples "advice." So next time you go post on a thread like this, do us humans a favor... don't.

And for your information, about 15 minutes ago, I fixed my phone, all by myself, and used ABSOLUTELY NONE of the information I found from searching, especially from your guide.

When you have a higher reputation on this site and your status isn't "lurker", then come back and tell me something. But as it stands, I don't care what you have to say. I have posted guides and many people have told me how helpful it was for them. You will not get any help coming in here blowing up when we tell you to search. You're on your own, people here will not help when you post repeat threads then start getting crazy when told to search.

Good day

Cool Re: Please help! VX6700 update problems, possible brick

pdaphonejunkie,

Nobody likes to sift through the neverending piles of "read before you ask" posts. There are more 'holier-than-thou" mf's here that write journals...but say nothing. Mapexdrummer obviously spent time searching but you didn't know that until after your "stop wasting people's time" post. "BRILLIANT!" Just point the dude in the right direction, and get over it! (either that or don't reply...hate to waste any more of your prescious time.)

Re: Please help! VX6700 update problems, possible brick

i highly agree with the coach. prob coach for good reason. but anyway, its very true, i search for very long periods of time to find an answer, and when i find someone that is asking the same question, it only leads to someone posting to search on your own, that doesn't help out anybody, or maybe just makes you feel more of an expert, i don't know.

It might also be worth noting that when a replier points someone in the right direction all the people who arrive at the secondary post can follow the link back to the solution, thereby making the solution more accessible by everyone.

Re: Please help! VX6700 update problems, possible brick

Look guys, if you know the internet and know how to use keywords, you can find anything you want. Ive done it IDK how many times and Im into far more things than just a PPC. Now if you are new to the world of the internet and its infinate usages and knowledge libraries then I can understand.

There are numerous threads that oppose Vista and even more on a 64bit platform because the Kitchen is 32. You sau BiuldOS gave "some kind of error". Well to really help (and I know you know this already) but we (and you) need an error msg in order to find what the issue was and the resolution for it (whether it be here or Google). The Kitchen will load the device in BL mode when it is ready to flash the device. The device always has to be in BL mode to receive a flash. Either you can put in it that mode or the RUU will. So thats how you got there. Not knowing what BL version you had on your device and flashing with a utility that you didnt fully understand is your own fault and is likely what caused the issue. Im not trying to me mean or rude but this is why you read all the disclaimers and threads telling you to read, read and read some more BEFORE you attempt to flash.

Overall you device is not bricked. It should be though for you not reading first and jumping into a utility and not fully understanding everything first. The computer should recognize a "device" plugged in but will not recognize what the device is. It is normal to here is chime when connected. The status at the bottom of the device should also change from Serial to USB. AS will not detect the device.

So now you know what caused it and how you got there. You know you need to get out of BL mode, hard reset and try to re-run the RUU to get where and what you want. And I highly suggest you find a XP platform to use.

Is this HERE the MTTY 142 you tried?
