Simple flashing guide w/Screenshots
Alright, since some people still have trouble flashing I will make a guide of my own for the Apache. There are others out there, but none with screenshots.
Step 1: Get the phone in bootloader mode by holding down the Power button the Record Button and your stylus in the reset hole. You will be given the dark bootloader screen saying "Serial" at the top and "v.X.XX" at the bottom, which is your bootlaoder version. http://img120.imageshack.us/img120/7405/step1b.jpg Step 2: If you are on a computer running Windows Vista make sure you have Windows Mobile Device Center 6.1 installed. Now Open the program and go to "Connection Settings" and uncheck the first box, "allow USB Connections". http://img9.imageshack.us/img9/2302/step3x.jpg Step 3: Connect your Mini USB cable to your phone and straight into your computer USB port, don't use a hub or cradle. The Bootloader screen will now read "USB" at the top and the bootloader version at the bottom. http://img3.imageshack.us/img3/738/step2m.jpg Step 4: Run the RUU for your ROM. This step can be different for which ROM you are flashing. If you are using a stock ROM there will be an excutable you download then run, follow the directions and you will be fine. As for my custom ROM, open the folder and run the excutable, then follow the directions on the screen. http://img9.imageshack.us/img9/8312/step4.jpg Step 5: After the RUU is complete unplug the device and perform a hard reset, the go through device setup. If you turned off USB connections, turn them back on. http://img9.imageshack.us/img9/303/step5o.jpg If you have trouble on Vista read here. |

Re: Simple flashing guide w/Screenshots
Hello. New to this forum. Just purchased a sprint version ppc-6700 off ebay. Attempted to flash with aku 3.3. I put the phone in bootloader with no prob. It says v1.00 at the bottom. It gave a "error 120 country code". Now it stays in bootloader, but changes to "usb" when plugged in. I just tried the PDAJ's Clean Apache ROM chose version 1.00 with NoID. It goes to 100%, on both the pc and the bootloader screen shows "ce upgrade complete". I hard reset, no go. Anybody have any ideas what my issues are? I appreciate it.

Re: Simple flashing guide w/Screenshots
I tried flashing my XV6700. It is V2.02 according to the boot loader screen. Once flashed "successfully", i unplug and do a hard reset and the screen comes up with Y or N and i hit Y and then space and it goes back to the boot loader screen. Any ideas? I am running windows xp and have activesync 4.5 installed.

Re: Simple flashing guide w/Screenshots
I have tried the directions for getting out of the bootloader posted with something like "get out of 2.04/05 bootloader" as those are the only directions i can find. My phone is obviously infatuated with the bootloader screen and refuses to leave it. So, after reading more and more posts i found a very detailed one on switching from verizon to alltel (which was what i was attempting in the first place) and wish to just go back to the phone as it was when loaded with verizon software. How can i do this or is there something else i can try? Also, after searching i could only find the carrier rom for the 6800, so im pretty sure thats where i messed up and used the .nbf files from the bell ROM.
|
Re: Simple flashing guide w/Screenshots
Using another carriers nbf won't hurt it. Here is how you get outa bootloader.

Re: Simple flashing guide w/Screenshots
oky doky. got it loaded and booting. Now when i dial *228 it says call cannot be completed as dialed (from alltel). So i figured it was because i have yet to register my esn with alltel. I dialed 1800ALLTEL1 and got some nationwide roaming message, that didnt sound like it was from alltel. FYI, i flashed the phone at work on a different xp machine and then it started working fine, so some setting on my xp machine at home must have been mean to it. American roaming network*

No no no no. You need to change the PRL to Alltel. Flashing an Alltel ROM is not gonna cut it. You can run any ROM as long as the PRI and ESPT settings are right... |
Re: Simple flashing guide w/Screenshots
I had that done with 30038.prl (i hope thats the correct one) and when *228 is dialed i get "cannot complete your call as dialed" and when 1800alltel1 is dialed i get "welcome to the american roaming network...so on and so forth).

http://corolada.com/prl/alltel/30034.prl. this one. sorry its 30034
|
Re: Simple flashing guide w/Screenshots
Yeah that one will work. Get that ESN added then do a *228.
|
Re: Simple flashing guide w/Screenshots
ok so i re-did everything so i can give you the steps i took. downloaded the v2.02 apache rom in your sig. put radio_.nbf and ms_.nbf from the bell rom available for download on this forum into the v2.02 folder. ran the ruu and let it do its thing. reset the phone and it boots properly. dial *228 and get that alltel cannot complete my call as dialed. According to the alltel tech the esn is in their database. OH! and the 1800alltel1 number still gives me the roaming message. EDIT: yes the ESN is definately there because my old phone no longer works lol. would it be ok to activate it? would the 6700 esn stay in there database so i can try an activate it at a later date?EDIT2: I redid it with the plain v2.02 rom. i put the alltel prl back on. If the phone is in network only mode, verizon answers and wants me to register my phone. when roaming only is selected (all this is under roaming settings) alltel answers. i thought this was odd and might give a clue

Re: Simple flashing guide w/Screenshots
i dial ##775, type in 6 zeros, edit, point it to that file, hit ok, then the phone reboots. I tried another ROM and the same thing happens. It goes to verizon when *228 is dialed. so this leads me to believe the prl isnt catching for some reason? i don't even know if thats possible. Ill leave that to you, the expert.

Re: Simple flashing guide w/Screenshots
Yeah that's the way. And yes, it sounds like the PRL is not functioning right. Try this one, http://corolada.com/prl/alltel/30029.prl. See, newer is not always better. When I flash Cricket phones I have to try a few PRLs to get the right one. Also, I don't know what the "Special device" ones are, but maybe try one of those should the EvDo ones not work...
|
Re: Simple flashing guide w/Screenshots
OK! So, i think i figured out the issue. when i go into phone(settings) it says the phone number of the phone is that of the previous phone owner. I tried changing the voice mail nnumber to the desired number but that didnt change the phone's phone number. I'm kind of surprised this doesn't go away when it is flashed. any ideas on how to change it? Oh and i changed to that prl you posted P.S. the old phone number is a verizon, which is why i think this is happening.

Re: Simple flashing guide w/Screenshots
Wow. This was amazingly simple. I now have 6.1 on my phone and it appears that everything is working...except....my camera.
The button on the side does not automatically start the camera. Although I do not use it a lot, I would not mind having it back. Oh yeah...the upgrade fixed two problems. The phone was running really slow (it is faster now) and I lost the Internet connection a couple of weeks ago (it is working now). I was not surprised on the phone being faster, but I was surprised the Internet connection was working again. If anyone has advice on the camera problem, I'm open to all advice. EDIT: I figured it out! I went into - Start - Settings - Buttons and I had to assign the button to the camera. For some reason, it was unassigned. Everything seems to be working now! Thanks Mike |
Re: Simple flashing guide w/Screenshots
Enjoy the ROM Mike.
