It looks like I'm getting the same speeds when I have the 1X signal as the EV... so is it possible that I'm just not getting EV anymore? I have reprogrammed the phone and have also upgraded to 1.4 radio, still no difference.

Somewhat enlightening results from our extremely unscientific test here so far:

Verizon: 11 tests averaging 363kbit/sec (excluding my own tests which are obviously on faulty equipment)

Sprint: 18 tests averaging 767.5kbit/sec, almost double!

For verizon supposedly having the best network in the country, their data speeds seem to be seriously lagging behind sprints, at least in the areas where sprint gets coverage.

Well don't generalize

San Jose
Sprint (AKU 3.5 new core, radio 1.27 or whatever the latest pre 1.4x one is)
2 bars
1M file

228 kb/s
0.456 latency

430/.837

370/.8

Which is about normal for me - 300 or so on average around here.

Any of you guys running your test while on AC vs battery?

I ran mine on Battery...

Seems Sprint speed is directly related to the number of bars...

I called my problems in and I'm expecting a replacement phone next week, so hopefully that will fix the problem.

Just out of curiosity I went down to the local verizon store to see what kind of speeds the demo phones got. Turns out the only phone they had with a real browser was an 8830. It wouldn't do the test, could never get a stable download even with the 1mb file. I couldn't beleive it, no Treo's, no Q's, no 6700's, only the Blackberry?

The AT&T store was in the same parking lot and the 3G network just took hold in this area so I gave a couple of their phones a try.

HTC 8525 = Avg 822kbit/sec on 3g

Samsung Blackjack = Avg 670kbit/sec on 3g

Treo 750 = Avg 608 kbit/sec on 3g

iphone = Avg 161 kbit/sec on EDGE
