Stuck on Align Screen step

I've been having problems with my touchscreen. Previously it would stop responding until I would forcibly run the stylus around the edge of the screen, especially in the bottom right corner. It would also run into alignment issues pretty often, but I could fix that by going to the align screen utility in settings. Recently the screen alignment has been off to the point where stuff at the top pretty much is right on, the lower left isn't bad, but the lower right corner of the screen cannot be selected. Even a tap on the very lower right corner will register about 1.5cm above it. When I go to the align screen utility, my tapping will send the target around the screen like it's going to work, but then it will just keep going back to the beginning like I messed up. I could get out of this screen by turning the power off and back on, but it wouldn't fix the alignment issue. I got fed up today and just hard reset to try to fix it, but now I can't get past the align screen step at the beginning of setup. So now I can't use the phone at all. I've tried to use a business card to clean out the edge of the screen. I got a good bit of junk out, and it looks clean around the edges, but still no better. I've tried different roms and nothing has changed. I'm currently using BigJ's 1.1. I've searched around and found no real helpful advice. If there's something else I can do, that would be great. I loved this phone when it used to work. I did get it off eBay about a year ago, so I don't think I can take it into the Verizon store. Any help is greatly appreciated, since I'm currently without phone service.

Thanks,
Justin

let me try this again...

ok, so maybe the phone has problems, but can someone at least tell me how to trick it to get past/off the align screen step presented upon a hard reset?
Thanks,
Justin

Hello:
Do you by chance have a screen protector? I had a very simular problem, I removed the protector and replaced it and the problem went away.

Using the same ROM myself, however I ran into screen alignment issues once in awhile previously.

What I found that was partially causing the issue... if you slide open the keyboard and use the keys to get back to the align screen control panel you need to make sure you're doing it with the proper hand for landscape alignment. (I guess the tech who coded that control panel was left handed....) As the control defaults to left handed alignment. So it compensates the wrong way if you are right handed thus throwing off the alignment yet again.

Simple mistake after a couple times I noticed it

When I experienced the same problem, I found that tapping off each of the tick marks the same distance and same direction, got me over the hurdle and working until I could get a replacement phone.

Good Luck!

You can also place a blank file in the root of your device called "welcome.not" without the quotes. If you're at the align screen and connect your device, you can still explore it with activesync to put the file there and then just soft-reset.

AWESOME

xameius, thank you so much!

that was exactly what i've been looking for. i've tried tapping all over the thing for days and have been stuck on that f-ing screen no matter what. now i can use the freaking phone again and mess around and try other things to see what the problem could be. you're a life saver.

p.s. here's what my screen looks like when i make a new note and trace around the edge of the text area (should be a rectangle). could this be the trouble trying to align at all?

I've had similar problems with screen alignment...I will try this trick the next time it happens.

Thanks

Mine was having alignment problems too at one point. I figured it was because i had dropped it one too many times. After something else went wrong with my apache i exchanged it @ sprints repair center.

I never had this issue until R4. Since R4 it has happened no less than 10 times. It usually happens right when I "REALLY" need to do something important or am showing off to someone Then I get the obligitory, "you should have waited for an iPhone" comment which makes blood shoot out of my eyes )
