BT GPS Receiver...

I know this has probably been posted before, but hardware changes so often I was hoping to get a more up to date response...

I'm looking to get a BT GPS Receiver for my 6700, and I'm looking for suggestions... Also, what software are people using these days with their GPS Receivers?

Any suggestions, tips, etc.. would be greatly appreciated!

Thanks..

I use a Holux GPSlim 236 BT receiver with my 6700. I am running the new core kitchen (R2). I use iGuidance Navigation software, and Navizon wifi location software to earn money on the side (actually have now earned enough to pay for the receiver!) I love this setup and have had very few problems with it. I picked up the receiver new on ebay for $49.99 + $20 shipping and handling (gps4evyone was the seller). It also uses the same charging port as the 6700, so that was convenient.

I have to agree with the Holux GPSlim 236. I love it, I can use it with my laptop or phone depending on the level of detail that is needed.

I think they have recently or will soon have a replacement for the 236 with even longer battery life. Right now it gets 6-7 hours plus acquires signal faster than any other GPS I've used civilian or military other than a back pack mounted trimble.

iGuidance...

iGuidance looks like a nice app, question is, how do the map updates work?

Is it a one time thing, you buy it and that's it, or are there updates? And if there are map updates, do you have to purchase them?

Thanks

BT GPS

I use the i.Trek M6 and iGuidance and they work great with my PPC 6700. They do have free software updates, but not sure about maps.

I use a Holux 236 slim with tom tom 6 and it works great. I used it in the UK and it saved me speeding tickets and from getting lost, now I use it in the US and canada. I also use it with my Dell Axim x50v and it works fine with this device also

I bought the Pharos PT110 for $70 with shipping @NewEgg. Works wonders! Love it. It comes with Streets and Trips 05, but I had already received a copy of 07 from an MS rep. Works with all my GPS apps, Google, WiFiFoFum, ect.

I just got a Holux m1000 for $55 after shipping. So far it's been fairly decent, I find it's kinda slow to start, but once it gets going I'm seeing 12+ sats outside. I'm using tomtom 6 with just the South East USA maps on my 512mb mini-sd card and it seems to work pretty good, and accurate.

I tried iGuidance. I liked how you can select which regions or states you want and all that on the PC side, but I find the interface much easier and more pleasing with TOMTOM.

I hardwired a deluo sirf star III in my car, (easily transported and hooked up to a cigarette lighter power) and I mainly use tomtom, latest versions of app and maps. typically pull about 10 satellite connections no problem.

I also have iguidance, google maps, live search, all work fine with gps, but tomtom's interface is something I've just got used to.

Here's the product page for the bt gps I use...

I use the Pharos iGPS-BT unit. Never had a problem with anything receiving from it, and has a cold acquisition time of 30 seconds or less. Nice thing is the GPS unit slides out of the bluetooth base and can be used via USB with an optional cable if you want to use it on your laptop. Works fine with TomTom 5 and 6, pocket streets, and ALK Copilot. The battery is also as easy to replace as the one in my 6700... just slide it out and replace. (although 1 year of constant 7-10 hour per day use and still holds about 5 hours charge). Think I paid $80 at CompUSA. Plus it's a groovy clear plasic case that glows blue with the status LED!
