Question What is the proper way to install an app with a cab file?

I'm running low on main memory but have plenty of memory on my storage card.
The problem with low main memory is that I am prohibited from installing new apps on to my storage card, because an installation program, by default, always tries to copy the cab file to the main memory first, even when the final destination is the storage card.
So I tried to copy the cab file to the storage card, run it from there, and select storage card as the destination.
All this seemed to work fine, except that now the name of the application (SK Tools in this particular incident) did not appear in the drop-down applications list, although the executable file could be found with file explorer and run from there.

Did I miss something? What is the proper way to install an app with a cab file from the storage card?

Re: What is the proper way to install an app with a cab file?

Not sure what went wrong, I rarely install to the SD card since it can cause issues, but when I do, the file is still linked in the start>programs menu. You can also link to it directly by holding tap on the file, select copy, then go to windows>start menu>programs then holding on a clear area, then selecting paste link. This works with resco explorer, not sure about the built in file manager.

The only rule of thumb I can think of about installing programs to the SD card is don't put a program there that needs to run constantly, or that is needed on boot, you can get a false Storage Card folder, and your SD gets moved to Storage Card 2, creating problems with false/dead links. Programs that are used on occasion for specific things can be installed to the SD card.
