Disappearing notifications - is there a definitive fix?

I have been suffering through notification problems since I got my 6700. I had planned on trying a new ROM, but I'm hoping that someone has a fix short of that (as I've seen reports of people with new 3.x roms having this same problem too).

The issue is that of the disappearing notification dismiss box. When an alarm/notification time arrives, the phone wakes, the alarm sounds, and I will get the dialog box for just an instant, then it disappears. There is then no way to dismiss the alarm unless I soft-reset the device.

I've seen many proposed solutions including cleaning notifications with memmaid, removing repeating appointments, unchecking calendar from activesync then rechecking, I even picked up Pocket Informant because some folks indicated it did notifications differently and it solved this issue. None of these have been a solution to the problem.

Is there a solution? Is the cause actually known?
