Re: GPE Linux on Apache 6700 for Mobile Computer

Well right now i'm just getting comfortable creating images and testing out as many different distro's to see what drivers I could possibly port from 1 device to another. had decent success getting a few distro's running. I am downloading the source for Opie and the source to build up the kernel with all the options, once I figure out persistent i'll make more progress. I dont understand it yet because when I make changes in Opie and reboot, the changes are actually staying so i'm kinda confused on what persistant means exactly.

This is what I do for fun tho, im a non stop computer nerd with no social life lol and just love tinkering. I also Work for sprint/Nextel repairing these phones all day long and got the job because of my technical background. out of all the phone models running window i've always said the 6700 is the one i'd use since it dont have the lag that all the others have. i've worked on every device sprint nextel offers. it has decent hardware for a mobile pc. having Windows mobile on it has no interest to me so once I got a 6700 to play around with I starting looking into getting linux ported over and found this site. kinda sad to hear wifi didnt come into play but i'm sure I can write a driver to make it work.

I'm gonna use this post as basically a log so I apoligize if I seem to be talking to myself lol. I will keep everyone posted on my progress. I am the guy that does not give up until I get it figured out.

Re: GPE Linux on Apache 6700 for Mobile Computer

Persistant vs live distros mean only one thing, persistant will KEEP changes, and apply those changes on boot, just like your PC, or your apache's WM, live distro does NOT save changes, it starts fresh everytime you start it up, like a CD. It may already have a method of saving changes in place, from the sounds of it. I for one am interested and would like to be up to date on what you have managed to do, getting wifi and the cdma were the two main hurdles never conquered, there was also power management and sleep/suspend modes that were never finished. Finish any one of those and you got farther then anyone else seems to have gotten.
