Installing ROM's on your xv6700??

Hi folks long time lurker first time poster.

Well my question is this.

What is lost on a ROM install? What Original ROm would i need to back up/flash too should my phone need work by the VZW techs?

There are so many ROM's to choose from i don't know which to try/use?

Also most of them seem to talk about the Sprint PPC-6700 now while i know that they are the same model, Carrier wise they are different.

I've read about Carrier specific extended ROM's is that just a ROM that included the info to allow your phone to communicate with VZW's cell towers and work on their network?

Also what improvements are there over the Original ROM's compared to these?

Like a side by side comparison?

I realize thats a lot of questions and I do/have make it a point to search for my answer's as I am a Mod of my own site but I've either missed them entirely or skimmed past the info i've asked.

I'm very knowledgeable in the field of PC's and general tech as I work Technical Support for Verizon FiOS but after searching around and getting half answers or missing said posts i figured I'd just post politely and to say hello.

So.....Hello!

`TM

Edit: Changed the topic to an actual questions..appeared to look like a statement and as such this thread got 21 views but no responses figured i'd correct it to avoid confusion.

You can always flash back to the stock VZ ROM if you send you phone in. I am pretty sure they are up on the PCGeeks FTP.

The ROM choice can be tricky, but it's a lot easier now than it used to be. Right now there are really two (current) kitchens out there. Each one allows you to pick and chose the apps you want to install. They both have most of the latest fixes included.

If I were you I would set aside 1/2 hour and download a kitch (BigJ or Helmi), read the instructions and experiment, always remembering to back everything up. Once you have everything backed up you can flash, and reflash till you find what you like.

Most improvements are described, the BigJ thread goes into great detail about what is included, read that and you will be well on your way.

well i flashed it and it flashed correctly but i wanted to know if anyone had/has the or an original VZW Rom.

I looked on the FTP but i believe i missed it. When i installed the BigJ Rom it didnt give me an option to save a back up or my old ROM ...any help or advice would be good i more or less want to uninstall back to the original rom with nothing else installed and then reinstall the Big J rom and then my programs.

ah reverted back to VZW updated ROM on the UTStarcomm's site. but when i reflashed to BigJ's version it flashed correctly but it was very slow and unresponsive and the contacts list did not come up when i clied on either the softkey or the touch screen. It flashes up and then disappears.

I believe i followed the correct steps by soft resetting after i flashed but it still was very slow and unresponsive. I replaced the pim.vol file to try and resolve it but it still did not work.

Am i missing something?
