USB HOST/(USB OTG) SUPPORT FOR 6700????
Does the 6700 hardware support USB-OTG?
I just got back from living in Japan for two years and was used to having USB Host capibility on my w-zero 3 es (I was able to connect basically whatever usb th you could think of, Hard drives, flash drives, external usb card readers, keyboards.... etc etc... veeeeery usefull especially the external hardrive option... I was connecting a 250 GB hard drive and playing all my music and stuff through it! This is a link to the W-zero 3 with pictures of what the capabilities of usb host are... http://translate.google.com/translat...language_tools I get back to america and of course my Japanese phone doesnt work here, so I picked me up the best one on the american market (6700) sad to say but the 6700 is nowhere near as cool as my W-Zero 3, its a shame it doesnt work here.... but whatcha gunna do? I WANT MY USB HOST CAPABILITIES BACK!!!!!! I have seen some stuff on pdaphonehome.com..... it leads me to believe that the 6700 has the capability.... just no software to unlock it. below is what was on their site.... "Two facts make me think it might be capable, but not currently supported: 1) The PXA270 processor has a USB host built in to the processor. 2) The USB connector is a Mini-AB type, which physically can fit both Mini-A and Mini-B cables. Mini-A is generally used for host mode. I have 2 other devices with the same shape connector, both of them support USB host mode. Every other device I've seen has a Mini-B only connector (slightly different shape) Since the USB host is built into the processor, it's just a matter of connecting the processor pins to the connector contacts. It could be soldered with a few wires if it's not already capable. Can someone knowledgable shed some light on this? I can't think of any reason they would have used the Mini-AB connector if this thing couldn't do USB host. I found out on UT Starcom's website (PPC6700 manufacturer) that the chipset is a Qualcomm MSM6500. If you goto Qualcomm's website they say it has USB OTG support. I also went to the USB OTG website and found out that the miniUSB A/B port that we have on the PPC6700 is ONLY ALLOWED on devices with FULL USB OTG support. If I rememeber right from the past is that USB OTG requires a app. that you run and tell it to switch to HOST mode. A Friend of mine has a device with "advertised" USB OTG support and this is what they have to do. After we figure this out all you need to do is get a miniUSB A cable to plug in the port on the phone that has the right port for your device. My friend that has the OTG device said there are few drivers for Windows CE but if you search for them they're out there. FYI: USB OTG means HOST and CLIENT USB modes. I hope this helps fuel the push to find USB HOST support on the PPC6700 " ????????? is there an app out there ? I have been searching for hours and days to no avail the app i used with my w-zero 3 was called usbselect and the cable i used was a special cable that should work with 6700 the program for some reason doesnt seem to work on the 6700.... any suggestions?/ someone that has sucessfully USB HOSTED with 6700 I was trying to post about USB HOST but since I just signed up I cant post !!!! search google japan for usbselect for the program to enable usb host capibility.... "ll try and post some links here now... that should help out on getting our 6700's to usb host usbselect: http://translate.google.com/translat...language_tools usbselect Review http://translate.google.com/translat...language_tools I hope we can figure out how to utilize this for the 6700!!!! |

I am glad to see you have done this research before just asking, but i don't believe it will work for the 6700 still. If there are wires that just "need to be soldered to the cpu" that isn't really something that can be done by a user. Even on a removable socket chipset for a pc that isn't easily done for most people.
This topic seems to have an eerie similarity to the idea of standalone GPS on the 6700. Hate to be negative like this, but i'd be happy to be proven wrong

Dont forget that when/if this enabled that you also are required to use a new type of USB cable!!!
There are special OTG (On-The-Go) cables that are the mini USB A that is currently on our devices, and the other end is a femail USB A (similar to a USB extention cable) so that the external HDD can plug directly into the PPC device as if it were a PC. |

Yes of course WM5 Supports USB OTG.......... Its the hardware that is the problem..
+ yes you need a special usb cord for this which can easily be ordered from someplace on the internet... when I was in Japan I got mine from http://64.233.179.104/translate_c?hl...language_tools But even with this kind of special cord if the 6700 doesnt have the capability to usb host it wont work all-together......... what I want to know is if the 6700 has this because it either has the capability or it doesnt and thats what we are all trying to figure out... |

I have this:
Memorex TravelSync (can't post links yet) it's PN 32028501 It works really well for xfering from my thumbstick to my ds-xtreme for my ds. So I assume it wouldn't be a problem to xfer files from any usb device to and from the 6700, although I haven't tried yet (don't have phone yet). Although this isn't a solution really. You'd have to select a file with the device and move it to the phone's sd card using WM5torage on the phone. It's an idea. There's similiar usb host solutions like this, that can do usb 2.0 speeds etc, but I got this one for $10. but it's definatelly a way to have a usb hd and portably move a chunk of songs to an sd card or something when you want |
