Re: Change location of My Documents
Sorry for bumping an old thread. I want to do this on my Sprint HTC Touch. If we do this, will ActiveSync still sync things to the correct place (to the My Documents on the SD card)?

Re: Change location of My Documents
here you go. hope it helps.
I found this at xda developers. I had success, but everytime i reset the device, the My documents folder keeps recreating itself. (it must be some app that's doing this, so i gave up). I found this at xda developers. "After many days of researching, I’ve finally modified my file system to my expectations. This modification has only been tried with Magician, WM2003SE. Do this at your on risk as I will not be liable for any malfunctions or any information lost. However you can contact me by email, ICQ or MSN Messenger for further researches and discussions. WHAT YOU NEED: 1. BigStorage ROM (optional) for “Program Files” folder 2. Pocket Mechanic (optional) to change Storage Folder names 3. Any File Explorer Alternatively you can use any Registry Editor to change Storage Folder names To change Storage Card: Dir: (HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\System\StorageManager\Profiles \SDCARD) String Name: Folder Default Value: Storage Card Modified Value: My Documents Dir: (HKEY_LOCAL MACHINE\Drivers\SDCARD\ClientDrivers\Class\SDMemor y_Class) DWORD Name: IOCTL Default Value: 4 Modified Value: 0 To change MMC: Dir: (HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\System\StorageManager\Profiles \MMC) String Name: Folder Default Value: Storage Card Modified Value: My Documents DIR: (HKEY_LOCAL MACHINE\Drivers\SDCARD\ClientDrivers\Class\MMC_Cla ss) DWORD Name: IOCTL Default Value: 4 Modified Value: 0 To change Storage: Dir: HKEY_LOCAL MACHINE\Drivers\BuiltIn\FlshDrv) String Name: FolderName Default Value: Storage Modified Value: Program Files #1) RENAMING YOUR STORAGE FOLDER USING POCKET MECHANIC After renaming your storage folders, the system will prompt you to reboot. #2) EXODUS (LET MY FILES GO!!! I shouted at Microsoft) “My Documents” Folder As all of you know that the folder “My Documents” cannot be deleted as it is under ROM files. However, it can be renamed. For me, I deleted the “AUTemp” folder (or any folders in the root directory as long as it can be deleted) and rename “My Documents” folder to “AUTemp” as it still has some use of it. Make sure that you have copied all the files in “My Documents” to “Storage / Storage Card” especially the folder “UAContents” and “Templates”. “Program Files” Folder Firstly, you have to uninstall all the programs in the Program Files Folder by unticking all the programs from “ActiveSync, Add/Remove Programs” so that the folder can be deleted without any software conflicts. Do not select remove unless it is necessary. After you have uninstalled all the programs, there will still be some files in your “Program Files” folder. Cut and Paste the remaining files to “Storage / Storage Card”. You should be able to delete the default “Program Files” folder after that Reboot your system and you will find that your entire storage card changed to “My Documents” and your storage changed to “Program Files” automatically. #3) NEW SETTLEMENTS Finally, after everything has been done, now you can reinstall all of your programs as default installation path and remember to set all your documents settings to save to “Main Memory”. And now, you are good to go… Cheers Nonentity MSN: letter_for_me@hotmail.com ICQ: 106222660 Flaws: 1) After the migration of the file system, there will be a glitch with the note function. When you tap "new" it will prompt you "Could not create the voice link recording directory." But after you tap "ok" it will function as normal... the note will still be save in your new "my documents" folder (A.K.A. storage card) as default... 2) System only fails (storage = My Documents2, new "My Documents" folder on main memory) when Caller ID software is installed. This can be restored by taking out your SD card, wait till "My Documents2" folder disappeared, delete new "My Documents" folder and reinserting SD card. But u will have to repeat this process every time u restarts your system, unless Caller ID has been removed. a. Removing Caller ID Software Step #1: search for "CallerID.dll" in your windows dir and rename it to "CallerID.dll-" this action will stop the system from using this file... Step #2: delete "IA_CID_Startup.exe" under "\Windows\" and "\Windows\Startup\" dir. If it is in use, try renaming it and delete it after a soft reset. Step#3: delete "My Documents" folder from root dir... Step#4: cold reset your device... If the original "My Documents" folder is still there, repeat step #3 & 4... To be safe, do the same to "ContactSDK.dll", "DisplayCID.dll" and "iacontacts.dll" under "\Windows\" dir. 3) Any new installations or modifications in the registry will have the same problem as above (Flaws #2)... But it is not permanent like Caller ID software. Just use the method above once or twice and it'll stay that way for good even you restart your system again..." here is the link to the site: http://forum.xda-developers.com/show...=259823&page=5 |

Re: Change location of My Documents
Wow that's way more than I'd like to do for something that should be simple. I hope MS can include a feature to move My Documents completely to the card in a future version of WM.

Re: Change location of My Documents
Anyone have anything on this? I see Diamond Tweak has options for this, but nothing happened when I changed My Documents to SD card using the options for this in Diamond Tweak.

Re: Change location of My Documents
If you use an app called Advanced Configuration Tool there are options in it that will do that for you. All it is is a GUI that makes the reg edits in the background but it does work extremely well and has lots of cool things in it.

Re: Change location of My Documents
I meant Advanced Configuration Tool in my post right above yours (not Diamond Tweak). I tried using those options in Advanced Configuration Tool, but My Documents stayed on the Touch Pro.'s memory. It didn't move to my SD card.
