threaded texting not working properly

I've been messing with my phone for a while now (thanks Helmi and everyone else!) and loved threaded texting, but recently when i've been redoing my phone, the threaded text doesnt work properly...regardless if i install arcsoft mms or not.
the problem is that if I have a conversation open and the person sends me texts...they dont get saved as read. I have to select each new message to make it save...or if they send me more than one message when the conversation is closed, its as though i need to open the conversation once for each new text message otherwise it still says there are new texts (doesnt matter if i reply to them or not). is there a fix for this? i tried searching but came up blank, any help would be appreciated!
