Weird troubles with trying to flash to new rom

I have tried installing both BigJ's and Colonel's roms, and both of them seem to be giving me the same problem.

The Rom Update Utility does not list current or soon-to-be-updated version numbers. I hit next anyways, and it says

Code:
This ROM update utility is not designed for your device. Please get the proper ROM Upgrade Utility and try again!
I'm still kind of a noob, so take it easy on me. I have a bone stock Verizon XV6700. I ended up with a hard reset after the unsuccesful flashing... so i'm kinda back where i started. I guess thats better than a completely fucked up phone, but still. I'd like to get the newer akus working (especially BigJ's, since he has fixed the BT crap).

Any help or suggestions are greatly appreciated.

Did you put your phone into Bootloader mode before trying to flash?

Yes... tape button + power button + stylus in soft reset hole... dark screen with SERIAL, plug phone into USB, SERIAL changes to USB.

Right?

Ok, so i'm at home tonight playing around with things, and all flashes i attempt run perfectly fine!

I usually use my laptop at work (since it has my Outlook info)... so i just installed ActiveSync on my desktop at home. Is it possible that ActiveSync could be the culprit here?

I don't think it's ActiveSync here, but more likely the USB bus in your laptop. What kind of laptop is it?

Also, are you using any kind of USB hubs or extensions, or just plugging straight in with a USB cable?

Straight into the laptop, using the stock cable that came with the phone. Its a Dell Inspiron 9100.

At home I used a random USB cable i had lying around, connecting to my desktop.

*shrug*

I guess its something i can test out more... but for now i'm happy.. i got BigJ's rom on my phone last night, and enjoyed playing around with it for an hour or so before i hit the bed. Now i have something fun to play with at work today, lol!
