Could you give us a run down of what have installed on your PPC? This is not typical behavior, there must be something added to your device that is causing this. What AKU are you running?

My notifications can be heard by callers as well. Simply because they play while I am on the phone, and they are loud enough to be heard. It is very annoying, and there is nothing that can be done, from what I have found. Is that what is happening?

I found out that if I have the Vibrate option turned on for SMS it causes the loud default notification to play in the external speaker and through the phone (allowing the person on the line to hear it).
