colonel,
I reloaded the latest VZW and my radio is 1.10. I then flashed back to 3.5 final and I simply get very poor reception. This time I even let the 'customizations' install post upgrade.

Results:

3.5 Final w/o customizations: poor reception in home office
3.5 Final w/ customizations: poor reception in home office

VZW 2.2 w/o customizations: Clear calls/complete calls in home office
VZW 2.2 w/ customizations: Clear calls/complete calls in home office

Let me know what else I can provide that may help narrow down the issue.

The thing I can't figure out is the EVDO settings. I can connect and sent messages and browse the internet with explorer, but it never says it's connected to the EVDO network. It just says Data Network Connect (Dial-up).

How do I get it to connect to the EVDO network?
it will connect to EVDO automatically when it can. easiest way to see if you're on EVDO is check the speed. or see if it says EV or 1X at the top
I get 160/120 for my upload/download speeds on DSLREPORTS.

Do I need to install the VZ cabs after I run the Colonels rom?

I do not think there is anything in the verizon extrom aside from setting up the ## codes adn whatever. However, if you are experiencing issues, you might want to run it.

Actually, the best test is to flash back to the Official verizon rom and test you reception and speeds there. Then you cna see if it is a rom issue or something else.

Could there be some code difference between the AKU 2.2 or the VZW image and the 3.5 that this is built off of with regards to radio reception etc.?

Quick ? to all verizon and other carrier users, which rom are u downloading from cols ftp? Yes, download the other carriers final, but also download the verizon.nbf in colonels ftp folder. Rename verizon.nbf to nk.nbf and replace the nk.nbf in the other carriers final you downloaded. If not, you guys are using a very old rom (5/3) i believe.
Always check the date of nk.nbf file to have an idea of it is an updated version. Happy flashing.

The download speeds are better, but I'm getting crappy reception. I'll wait to do a full speed test when I get to an area with better reception.

OK I did this and my versions are these:

ROM version - 2.60.10 WWE
ROM DATE - 02/27/07
Radio Version - 1.1.00
Protocol Version - SNAZ-40306
ExtROM version - 2.07.206 WWE
Hardware Version - 0041
PRL - 50540
PRI - 1.12_002
Browser MSIE 6.0

i know the sprint radio works on verizon handsets, you may want to try just flashing your radio and running your tests again.

someone actually beat me to it, i was going to put it on the FTP but its there already.

ftp://ppcgeeks:ezupload@up.ppcgeeks....NewRadio-1.27/

the file you need is radio_.nbf
ive had no issues putting it on vz handsets using hte NOID tool, but there is an advanced "How-TO" in that folder as well if you are having trouble flashing.
