Unhappy Burned WM6.1, now DUN via USB stopped working

Doh!
Thanks to the wonderful resources of this site, I upgraded my VzW XV6700 (HTC Apache) to WM6.1. Runs much faster and more smoothly now, everything is great -- thanks!

One problem, though. Prior to the burn, I was using it as a dial-up modem via USB. Worked great for over a year. I'm running Vista Ultimate.

Here's what happens. I make sure Activesync is not running on the device. I run Wmodem on the phone (hitting "start"), then plug the phone in via USB. Previously, the laptop would recognize the device as "EVDO1X Wireless modem" (or something like that), and I could just go ahead and use it for dial-up access.

But now, for some reason, Windows does not recognize it as a modem! In Device Manager, I've tried scanning for hardware changes, but it does not show up (phone and modem manager shows the other modems on the computer, but not the Apache). When I connect it, Windows goes ahead and "installs" it as "Mobile devices/Microsoft USB Sync" (that's what shows up in Device Manager).

I tried deactivating "allow USB connections" under Windows Mobile Device Center, but that did not help. Any other suggestions? It's killing me, because it was working fine under WM5!

Thanks in advance,

--Dennis

Yeah. wmodem doesn't seem to run right on WM6.

Wow. I am such a moron. I just assumed that I had to use wmodem, like in WM5. Did not even know that Internet Sharing existed in WM6.1 - thanks!

So I turned on Internet Sharing, hit "connect", *THEN* plugged it into the USB cable. Connected, able to surf. Wow, that was easy.

Anything else I need to know???

THANKS!

vty,
