Re: Disable D-pad

Sorry. There isn't a reg or software settings for it I don't believe. Why would you want to disable it though? Just put it in the back of a chair and hit it a few times, it will then get stuck in.

Re: Disable D-pad

The D-pad is faulty, and any movement can end up making calls to contacts or text messages. Don't want to disassemble it, thought turning it off completely might have been the best option vs. repair.

Re: Disable D-pad

I disabled mine PHYSICALLY and PERMANENTLY after having the same problem (randomly clicking on it's own and movement in some directions didn't work).

I opened up the phone, and pulled the silver / black cover off the little joystick.

I then grabbed the joystick with a pair of needlenose pliers and litterally yanked it off the circuit board (it will come off fairly easily).

I then stuck a little piece of foam (the spongy packaging kind) in it's place to hold the silver joystick button in it's original position.

Once the phone is re-assembled, you can't even tell anything is different except that the joystick doesn't function anymore.

The only thing I found I cannot do without the joystick is zoom the camera in and out. I'm sure there must be an alternative way, but I haven't been inspired to invest any time into finding an alternative.

Here are the dissasembly instructions I followed:

Re: Disable D-pad

Mine doesn't even function. It flatten out, and magically it somewhat works now... but everytime i push down it hits okay.

Re: Disable D-pad

On my second Apache I dropped it when I didn't have it in my holster and the knub got pushed in, but it still worked. Just didn't click and felt ghetto. All my other 10 Apache's have never had problems.
