Looking for an old custom WM5 ROM w/unlocked registry

hi again...

Sorry to keep bothering you, but I'm sooo close to having a usable phone, if only Sprint could figure out how to activate a phone flashed to wm6.1.....!

My 6700 has a bad digitizer. No prob, I had it working just fine using the new 20755 build (I just went in and swapped out the "welcome.exe" for a blank file and used MyMobiler.) But I spent an entire day with Sprint tech support while they tried to activate it.

Then I read somewhere on this forum that you need to have the phone running wm5 in order to activate it. So I flashed it back to the stock Sprint ROM. Now I can't figure out how to unlock the registry in order to add a Skip Welcome OEM. SInce I can't get past the alignment screen, I can't run anything on the ppc itself - have to do it on the PC thru activesync. And when I tried to enable RAPI - it wouldn't let me, so RapiConfig is out, too!

Which is why I thought there might be an old wm5 build lurking in the past over here somewhere with an unlocked registry?

Or, anyone have any other ideas for me?

Its not that the registry is locked but rather you need an app like Resco Registry Editor or even Total Commander to simply access it.

You're not bothering us. The problem is that on Sprint you can't activate a phone unless it has the stock ROM on it. You will need to use the official Sprint ROM. Hope this helps. Peace.

okay, reeeeally dumb Q here, but when my ppc is in the cradle and activesync is running, can I launch Total Commander and navigate to the phone's Windows folder?
If so...where will I find it?

I launched Total Commander and it only sees the standard stuff on Windows XP: "my computer", "C" etc. Not sure where to find the phone. And that's the problem I'm facing: since I can't use the phone to access registry (because I can't get past the align screen) then I don't think I can use Resco.
Doesn't Resco run on the phone and not the PC?

No. Total commander is anpplicaiton you install on the PPC and launch it on your device. But if you want to activate this phone on Sprint you have to flash the phone to stock WM5 ROM otherwise it won't work.

...and activating the phone using sprint's stock wm5 is something sprint can't do either, unless I can find a way to hack into the registry and place a "Skip Welcome" in there. Otherwise i'm stuck trying to align a screen whose digitizer has gone bad....

When I discovered sprint was having trouble with wm6.1, I reflashed with the stock sprint ROM.
Now there's a locked registry, which means I can't bypass the align digitizer screen, which means i can't use total commander.....

any suggestions on how to unlock the registry in wm5?
Was there an old kitchen app for a custom wm5 ROM that might have an unlocked registry that I can use to flash the phone?

There is no such thing as a locked registry. I don't know what you're talking about. You just need something like PHM to get to it. I think you're confusimicated. No such thing as a locked registry.

re-read post 2, but if you do have a bad touch screen then there is nothing you can do as far as I know. However, I do think there was something in the Kitchen to let you build a ROM w/o that "welcome" and "screen calibration" part in it.

There was, but unfortunately, it was for Titan only....

However, that's no big deal in wm6.1, because I can get into the registry easily and swap out the "welcome.exe" for a blank file. I can bypass screen calibration and use the phone. Sprint just doesn't have a clue how to activate it!! They claim it's flashed to cricket - and when I hit *2 and it says "welcome to cricket", well, it's kinda hard to argue with them....

So I have to flash a wm5 ROM back onto the phone. And I did: useing the stock sprint ROM.

BUT...it's the WM 5 stock sprint build that WILL NOT let me edit the registry!!!!! I cannot get in thru CERegEdit like I do with WM6.1. Even after I tell CERegEdit to unlock the registry - and it tells me that it has successfully unlocked it - it still says "access denied".
(BTW - that is NOT the case with WM6.1)

Which is why I'm hoping someone somewhere has another wm5 build that WILL allow me to get in and bypass the dang align screen. (I'm sooooo close to activating this phone...)

Well, okay. I never have used CERegEdit. So perhaps there is a compability issue with WM5. Use PHM regedit, it's free. Now, if the phone is flashed to Cricket, the PRL and stuff also had to get changed. So you're gonna need to change out that to Sprint's.
