Painting my phone

Ok I want my phone to be ORANGE really really badly.

In replacing my broken face button pad array today I found out that this phone is surprisingly easy to tear apart right down to its parts.

SO I want to do it again seperate all the plastic and pain them orange.

Painting with a rattle can is a non starter I know that withing DAYS the paint will be wearing chipping and peeling.

Suggestions? is there a better more permanent paint? What about an auto pain shop? maybe I can take the parts to them and ask them to spray them for me?

Any suggestions? I was thinking colorware but they are awful expensive are they cheaper if I take it apart and send them the parts to just paint and return to me?

the important thing to me is Shiny Glossy and DURABLE finish. I want to be able to beat the hell out of it like the stock finish and have it survive

Can one get replacement shells for these phones?

Re: Painting my phone

You can paint with a rattle can if you do it right and seal it with a clear coat. What do you think that paint cars with........paint in a sprayer with compressed air powering it.

Re: Painting my phone

That would be awesome! I think you'll need a combination of the following: sanding down the parts you want to paint, using primer first, using spray paint that's for plastic, and the clear coat as was mentioned before. You should google "Fusic faceplate paint". You'll get a good link for a guy that did some great work on phones, and it'll tell you how to do it.

Re: Painting my phone

hmm will check it out. I know how car paints are applied but I also assumed that they were chemically different and had a different capacity for adhering to the surface and or in "hardness" than regular consumer rattle cans.

They may, especially when you go from sheet metal to fiberglass but my point was on the concept of how it is applied and not so much as the paint itself. But I think you get the idea.

Re: Painting my phone

lightly paint it orange wth spray paint. dont go for the solid orange right away. 'DUST' it with some paint, come back in 20 mins, do it again, should take like 5 coats. also keep the spay nozzle really clean, or else you will get blobs/drips. after you get the color you want. wait an hour or two. then clear coat it. make sure u dont mix oil and water based stuff. the oil based stuff will eat the water based stuff. talk to someone at the hardware store. they will set ya up. you may be able to use oil based paint and water based clear coat. just not the other way around.

Re: Painting my phone

How durable will it be though? ie will it be as durable as a stock finish? what can I do to MAKE it as durable? Special paint? Specific Brand? Pre Prep?

Re: Painting my phone

for prep just clean with soap and water, rinse well, let dry. get some scuff pads and scuff all surfaces you want to paint, it will take of any extra contaminants and help with paint adhesion.clean and dry throughly. then for paint just get some plastic paint, ive used stuff called krylon plastic, stuff you use on plastic yard furniture, make sure to read instructions. durability should be good, needs to be for yard stuff. if you want you can use a clear coat too, shouldnt need to. paint many light coats, better than few heavy coats. if you do many coats it will help with durability, but keep in mind alot of paint with orange peel the paint, and look like ****.

Re: Painting my phone

Testors model airplane paint is made for plastic. I used it on my old samsung n200, and it worked well.
