Angry Broken LCD Ribbon

Ok... so the screws holding the lcd to the keyboard came out of their holders. no biggie because i was going to take it apart and screw them back in. well... my phone vibrated right off the table and ending up twisting the phone and ripped the lcd ribbon.

is this easy to replace and does anyone know where i can get one for free/cheap? or if it's doable?

thanks!

Re: Broken LCD Ribbon

I don't think so. When I took mine apart I didn't see the ribbon detach from the circutt board. I don't think anyone sells them either.

Re: Broken LCD Ribbon

Are you talking about the ribbon that connects the mainboard to the lcd/button pad? and has the speaker metal plate?

Re: Broken LCD Ribbon

Thanks for the replies!

I'm not interested in purchasing another LCD screen so I won't be going that route.

I thought that you could just replace the gold cable that runs from the back of the lcd to inside the unit. I guess it connects to the buttons as well as the mainboard.

I'm going to try hooking my phone up to my laptop and use mymobiler and see if I can view the screen on my laptop. I hope I can.

Re: Broken LCD Ribbon

I got some extra parts lying around for the 6700, including the flex cable you described. It wont be free but it will be very very cheap. PM me if you are interested.

Re: Broken LCD Ribbon

Zener,

Do you know if the flex cable is something you can replace? Right now I can get the keys to light up on my phone when I plug it in to my laptop, but the laptop does not recognize it through activesync, so thus, no MyMobiler. Darn it.

Replaceable? Generally, no. It is cheaper and easier to replace the entire LCD. I say cheaper because if you mess with trying to remove that ribbon from the LCD you will almost guaranteed destroy the LCD and/or digitizer.

Re: Broken LCD Ribbon

Depends... Activesync has to work for My Mobiler to work AFAIK... Is activesync working? If it is, try closing the PC side of My Mobiler completely, then restart My Mobiler...

If activesync isn't working, its probably the Advanced USB Networking option on the PPC that needs to be turned off... I don't know a way to change this (with a broken screen) short of flashing the phone with the option turned off in the ROM...
