For those who experience the white screen problem

I recently have had a quite a bit of problems with the PPC 6700 white screen issue. All I found on the internet was another guy who tore his unit all the way down and rebuilt it only to find no solution. To recognize the difference between this white screen problem, and something totally different like being stuck in bootloader, here are the symptoms:

White screen appears when hitting the power button on the phone to activate screen. Some of the screen elements can be barely visible when the screen is viewed at an extreme angle. Hard resets, soft resets have no effect. Sometimes when the screen works, it will be in what appears to be a 16 color mode with a pixel offset.

I first found that hitting the phone against a very solid surface (concrete worked best) cleared up the problem. Obviously this isn't the best solution. After taking the phone apart, no corrosion or bad connections could be found. What did turn out helping was mashing all the buttons on the front panel for a second or so, then turning on the phone. This became a consistent way to get the phone to work. My phone always had a problem with one direction on the direction button having poor response, which caused lockups with the other buttons. And in the end, mashing buttons isn't a solution since it eventually leads to total button failure, it definitely gave me a good idea of where the problem might have come from. I can't remember exactly how it went, but during disassembly I remembered there was some connection between the screen and the buttons like a shared ribbon cable maybe. So for anyone else with this issue, feel free to check this advice against yours and maybe you'll get away with only replacing the button board.
