VZW vx6700

ok.... i need some help trying to find out if my phone's problem is hardware or software.... i am running the newest official rom from VZW.
My phone turns on, sometimes i have a version number.... 1.10.00 next to the R (which i guess stands for radio.) and sometimes i don't.... When i do the phone starts up and sometimes i have service and sometimes it just sits there and searches or will instantly tell me no service... When it doesn't have the version number 1.10.00 next to the R it seems like it takes the phone a good 2 minutes to boot up... When this happens i reset my phone a good 5 maybe 6 times and sooner or later the version number shows up, and sometimes i get service sometimes not... It's very frustrating to me and i will appreciate any help.... Thank you in advance...
