Can Apache take advantage of high speed miniSD cards?

Howdy,

I've been searching, but haven't found an answer to this... Can the Apache (I've got a Verizon version XV6700) take advantage of the higher speeds a SanDisk Ultra MiniSD card can provide?

I don't care about performance in a card reader. I just want to know if the faster cards will increase phone performance.

Thanks! Sorry if this comes up all the time (but please point me to those discussions/tests!)

Mark

Howdy,

Nobody has any input on this? I was figuring you folks would be the ones with the answers, given all the in depth work I'm reading about here!

I'm not sure if I'm not getting responses because nobody knows or because its such a dumb question nobody wants to respond...

The former, I think. I'd imagine most people here have already bought their miniSD cards, and aren't in the market for a new one.

I will say this, though. From everything I know, the Apache reads regular speed miniSD cards slower than a desktop reader does, so I would imagine that it wouldn't be able to read high speed ones any faster. That's my hunch.

i have both an ultra fast card and a regular card and i cant tell the difference in performance. i was hoping for some benefit but agree with the comments by Sogarth that it just doesnt happen. I would go after reliability above speed.

give people time to read and respond to your questions. be patient, and if all else fails, try a google search.

Well, I may not know Jack Schitt, but the links you provide do nothing to answer if the 6700 utilizes the speed of faster mini sd cards.

I think the unfortunate answer is no, but I really don't know...

Howdy,

Like my initial post said, I did searches on Google and got no results. I'm sure I'm not the best at searching though.

Its moot at this point anyway... I decided to just order the cheaper 'regular' SanDisk 2GB card since I was unable to come up with any definitive info one way or the other & folks that seemed to have tried both didn't indicate a huge difference.

Thanks for the help from Slogarth and dhodson in particular!

Yep... it comes no where near the max thruput of a high speed storage card.

I've run some speed tests on my card and this is what I get

Write32bit: 219 bytes/sec
Write8kByte: 129710 bytes/sec (126.66KB/sec, .126MB/Sec, HORRIBLE)
Read8KByte: 6553600 (6.25MB/sec, better!)

compare this with the results here for transcend 2GB (miniSD 1.1 2GB)

http://www.hjreggel.net/cardspeed/speed-by-cards.html

And you see, we're not even close - read and write on these puppies should be 12MB/sec.

Here's some results for the ppc:

saw this on pocketnow.com...havent tried it yet...

Here is a tweak, taken from Tweaks2K2.net, to speed up SD/MMC card transfer speed that will work for Smartphone and Pocket PC.

Look for these two keys:

HKLM\\drivers\\sdcard\\clientdrivers\\mmc_class &
HKLM\\drivers\\sdcard\\clientdrivers\\SDMemory_cla ss

Change value of BlockTransferSize from 64 to 128 or 256.
