Re: 2D manilla on apache?

I am trying to use Maxx's version through the kitchen but it will not fit in my rom. I have taken out everything else and it keeps giving me the error. I'm trying with 20755.

Re: 2D manilla on apache?

The new update still gives me the looping Touch here to launch TouchFlo. Maxx's works and the Update 17 works.

Re: 2D manilla on apache?

Okay, I feel so absolutely, ridiculously stupid!

Would you guys mind a few n00b questions? (And I apologize if I'm posting in the wrong location...)

I've been reading this thread over and over, trying to follow what you guys are saying - and that's after studying ppcgeeks for the last 2 weeks, searching and reading tutorials, etc, trying to answer any Qs on my own before bothering you with it. Maybe it's just brain overload, but I'm getting a bit confused about what goes where with this Manila2D OEM!

As background, I have flashed successfully over 15 times, just playing around with the kitchen and loading different options - I'm using 20755 - so I'm real comfortable with that. (honestly, it's hard to mess that up, you guys have made it so 'plug -n- play' Thanks for that BTW!)

I even tried loading the manila 2D that comes with 20755. Got that looping touchFlo loading thang, too. So I gave up on that, reflashed to something more basic and concentrated on reading up on stuff and learning how things work.

---aside: I have 2 good Apaches, so I can play with one of them and still keep the other as my working phone until I get it right.... and I'm not afraid to get in there and mess around (though I hope I do so responsibly After all, I bought 3 "broken" apaches from ebay - tore into them and made 2 decent working phones. And Jabu, you made me LOL about the whole volume slider thing and that "rubber block 61"! Yep, happened to me too...twice... ---

I'd really like to advance to the next level. I'd love to load Maxx's Manila OEM, but when I read over this thread, it sounds as if some of you are extracting the files from various OEMs and dumping them into the kitchen_OEM. Sometimes it sounds as if you're replacing the entire kitchen_OEM with another .rar file.

If you dump the files into the PPCkitchen_OEM, do you create a folder structure for them, or just dump the whole wad inside? If you're replacing the OEM, are you RARing the zipped folder you download, then putting them in the Kitchens folder? (I'se confused....)

Also...various downloads from various sites (ppckitchen, here and xda-dev) have different types of files inside their main folder.

For example:

1. I d/l version 19a from xda-dev, and all the files inside the version 19a folder are cabs...

2. I d/l Maxx's "zzzzzSuperMegaManilapackVers19b" and unzipped it, and all the files inside are *really* unpacked. There are all the dlls, pngs, xmls, muis, etc just sitting there in the main folder. (So should I open Maxx's folder in WinRAR and rar it...?)

3. I opened up the PPCkitchen_OEM.rar using WinRAR and the files inside there are all tucked nicely into various folders.

I know there's a method to all this and if I just had my Ovaltine Decoder Ring, I'd understand the file structure and what should go where, but I'm pretty lost right now, and don't know how to proceed - or even where to go to read up on it so I can learn what to do!

Jabu mentioned on page 3 of this thread that they released instructions/cabs, but I searched for them and they keep eluding me.

Then I downloaded version 19a from the xda-developers site because someone had mentioned there were instructions included in the zip file ... but I didn't see them....

Then I saw on page 3 of this thread that DennyG had used the existing PPCKitchen_OEM, extracted the cabs from xda dev and replaced all the files in the PPCkitchen_OEM with these.

I can do that. I have the kitchen open in WinRAR, have the cabs from XDA. Do I unpack them and stick them into the kitchen_OEM?

(the head is officially spinning right now and I have a distinct urge to pull my hair out, which is pretty drastic since there's 4 feet of it...)

help...

Re: 2D manilla on apache?

laithis - I have a short attention span, but maybe this is the answer to your question

Here is how I did it:
1. Unzip Maxx's zzzzzSuperMegaManilapackVers19 - I just extracted all the files to a folder of the same name.
2. Place the unzipped folder into C:\Program Files\PPCkitchen.org\BuildOS\USER_OEM
3. Open BuildOS, and there should now be an OEM category, and it is called SuperMegaManilaPack19

You shouldn't have to mess with the PPCKitchen_OEM or do any repacking of anything at all, just drop the unzipped folder in to USER_OEM.

Just to let you folks know, I too have a megapack... I started a new thread for it in the themes section. Click the link in my sig! It's got 30+ different skins and it'll work for ppckitchen too!

Mostly, I am curious if this will work on the apache, and mogul...Can someone pm me if it does/doesn't work? Thanks!

Re: 2D manilla on apache?

Thanks RdBrd and rstoyguy!
[BTW - sorry for that long post... Didn't know how else to explain my confusion!]

I think I know what got me off track - it was a comment DennyG said about extracting the cabs from xda dev and replacing all the files in the PPCkitchen_OEM with those files.

So if I understand correctly, you're supposed to customize your own ROM by messing with the USER_OEM folder - and nothing else (unless you reeeally know what you're doing!).

Which means, if I apply that to the 3 examples I used..

1) The version 19 folder I downloaded from XDA which had all cabs in it: I would just put the entire folder as-is inside the USER_OEM folder [or should I un-cab each item first?]

2) Unzip Maxx's "zzzzzSuperMegaManilapackVers19" folder and move the folder into USER_OEM

3) Don't mess with the PPCkitchen_OEM.rar inside the Kitchens folder. Period.

I think what threw me was when DennyG said he'd extracted the cabs from xda dev and replaced all the files "in the PPCkitchen_OEM" with them. He must have been using shorthand to refer to the USER_OEM folder and I just misunderstood.

Did I get it right?

Re: 2D manilla on apache?

BTW, I messed around several hours yesterday with various builds, using Manila2D - and SUCCESS! Man this is sweeeeet!!!

rstoyguy, I'm going to load your megapack on my other Apache tomorrow or Weds evening after work. (REALLY wanting those other themes! )

I'll PM you if I just can't get it to work, but I'll try several configurations first, so you'll have some feedback if all doesn't go well.

thanks again guys for straightening me out!

Re: 2D manilla on apache?

No prob, glad you got it figured out.
In reference to your question about everything going in the USER_OEM, I really can't answer with 100% certainty. I had never tried adding anything to the kitchen before, and figured that out by trial and error. I'm assuming yes though.
Your 3 examples:
1) You can't put just any cab into the kitchen. It has to be converted for OEM. I have no idea what's involved in this, but check out the Custom OEM link in rstoyguy's signature.
2) Yes
3) You might be able to add things to the PPCKitchen_OEM.rar. I don't know why it wouldn't work, but I've never tried it.
