Editing a cab

Quick question.

I just downloaded the cab for minimo 0.2, and I'm just curious if I can modify that cab, so that when I install it on my phone, the proxy server will already be populated. Alternatively, how would I go about creating another cab which would populate the field for me?

I've got a couple employees who I have given phones to, and I don't want to have to answer questions endlessly when they hard reset, and their browser won't work anymore, so I'd like to build minimo into a custom extrom, with the settings already entered for them.

Well, first you will need to find the necessary registry entries that store this information. Once you have all of the entries, you can use an app like WinCE Cab Manager to edit the cab and add the proper entries.

Any advice as to how to find those settings? I searched the registry using PHM regedit, with no luck. Minimo puts a very minimal amount of info in the registry. Basically, I found the executable and uninstaller and that was about it.

I also searched the registry using my proxy address as a search string, hoping to find that text, but it was nowhere in the registry.

The best way to do it is to use a registry app that can export (I use resco but you can also use dotfred's task manager--google it). I can't remember if PHM can export or not.

What you do is called diffing. You export the entire registry, then make the change you want (in this case modify the proxy server) and then export the registry again. Then you bring both of those files over to your PC and use an app like Windiff or compare it to diff the two files. That is a sure-fire way to find the registry entry you're looking for.

Have fun.

Also, I would imagine that searching for a specific word while searching the registry should find what you need. Try searching for a specific word that you are entering as part of you setup process such as the username, password, proxy setting, etc.

Well, I found the file that has the settings, but it's not in the registry.. It's a javascript file.

So, I made a cab containing the javascript file with the correct settings, and flashed it onto the phone and it worked... Now I'm trying to make a custom extrom that'll install minimo and the cab for the proxy...

I'll update soon.
