Hi. I would like to understand better what I am doing here with respect to extended ROMS, etc. First of all, where does the extended ROM live in the file structure -- I would like to see what is in it even before the update? Also, how do you lock or unlock the extended ROM? Is there any documentation as to what goes where on these devices -- ROM VS. extended ROM vs installed software?

I find this process really interesting and I thank in advance all the folks who looked at these things with hex editors, ec.

Have fun.

Aliant would use the original Bell ROM

Look for the Bell Mobility ROM File:

Bell Mobility ROM seems to be all optional

Resetting phone while it begins to 'install carrier customizations' has no negative effect as far as I can see. Data connection is set up by dialling #777 with the username being '<your 10 digit phone number>@1x.bell.ca' and the password is <your voicemail password>. Now I can reclaim the ExtROM space and install useful things in there.
