Unified Rom project - My ideal ROM

I'm using the current beta and so far it works great! Can't thank all the people who volunteered their time! Your work is truly appreciated! This was an incredible undertaking and we all benefit a great deal - THANKS!!!!

This one only has one glitch I didn't notice in any other 3.5 version that I tried although I have seen it mentioned for other ROMs - it doesn't always recognize the storage media card- this may have happened on my device before but never when I was looking for the card so I can't say this doesn't happen in any other version. - I'll post this on bugzilla when my account is approved.



I was thinking about custom roms that would be nice based upon this fantastic starting point. I realize the Unified project is supposed to be clean - no mods. These are not issues with the unified project, they are things that would be great using the Unified Rom as a base point -

Update PRL 24 to PRL 27
Have date relatively current instead of 2006


Feature request for custom kitchens

If space permits, include in the following order or a drop in if a license is required (anything to free up storage on my unit would be great)
Flash player
Adobe Reader (minus the adobe document it installs)
Live Search
WM6 remote desktop
MS VC
SPB Pocket Plus
VJCandela - or another flashlight app
(I install other apps but I would think many people would want these as a base)


Things that I could live without that come from Sprint
Sprint Store
Action items
Audible player

I may be an exception but I do use MSN


Dream features -
Select your boot/splash screen before flashing (maybe a Sprint and Verizon default)
Make dialing always remain on keypad so you don't have to press keypad to navigate voice prompt systems
Update the Radio to the latest version if it hasn't already been updated.

Not sure if a menu system could be developed so you can select what things you want on your ROM - maybe not possible but it would be great for those of us not familiar with creating kitchens/ROMs.

Again - thank you everyone for creating this unified project your time and effort are outstanding!

Again, this is just a request for anyone considering making a custom rom - I realize my ideal rom won't be perfect for everyone - just tossing out an idea.

what exactly are you seeing re: the storage card?

Re: addons - those are all good candidates for OEMs (some, like WLS, already are OEMs) and now that we're near the end of the base rom, I expect we might start seeing more OEMs. I know I have a few to do (I've done "dirty" versions where several apps are lumped into one OEM, just to see if they ROM ok, now I need to make em all standalones)

Re: removing sprint junk... that's just your extended_rom - you're on your own there. I just use a sprint OEM and my extended rom is empty, unlocked, and visible for a 10mb "storage card".

I opened file explorer about 1 minute after I put my storage card in.
It didn't recognize it until I rebooted.

I wasn't sure if removing the Sprint junk would make more room for things like acrobat reader etc. I manually remove them after I flash my unit but I wasn't sure what can be cleaned up in advance to clear space that might be in some way tied up with crap that is somewhere residing as an installable after you hard reset your device and it initiales the device.

Your problems are due to installing crap from the extrom. You really should edit out the bad cabs and only install the ones you need... namely:

Well, not all of those are strictly necessary. I have starred the ones that are. But that list excludes the junk (audible, sprint store, goodlink, etc.) as well as the cabs that actually cause problems (PP_LockUp_Apac_212705.sa.CAB and PT_Ril_Apac_206301.sa.CAB).

As far as the PRL goes, that's somewhat difficult because the PRL is stored in the CDMA radio nvm--not the device flash. You can install an app that is supposed to update it but that presents cross-carrier problems. PRLs are not hard to apply (especially on verizon) so I don't think integrating PRL updates in a ROM is a good idea.

As for the date, we have looked to change that but it appears to be hard coded inside coredll.dll, and would have to be hexedited to change it. Too much trouble (as far as I'm concerned anyway... if others want to do it, great). You should be autosyncing with the network anyway so that will set your date and time for you.

Most of the other stuff you mentioned has already been turned into OEM packages on the FTP site.

Is there a thread that lists what all of these cabs are? I'm just curious. I agree, I'd like to get rid of any crap you don't recommend.

If someone out there wouldn't mind spoonfeeding this newbie, I'd love to know how to "edit out the bad cabs" - seems like a very good idea if it is something reasonably easy to do. I don't see the files in the folder on my PC that I used to update my phone.

I tried manually loading the files and of course it solved the issue with the data card.

Can you tell me how to get the little battery indicator back up to the top right corner, I've removed it from the bottom right but would like it back top.

You need to edit the registry:

I'm not sure if it would be possible but the menu would also give you the option of putting in the radio update. I just had to update a clients phone and I hadn't updated the radio on it previously and forgot that I needed to do that when I applied the unified update.
