How to tighten an Apache Keyboard?

My keyboard on this phone is really ghetto feeling. Does anyone know how to tighten it? I would just put in in a microwave and then call for a refurb but I like the RED keyboard lights, so if anyone can tell me how to tighten it I would greatly appreciate it.

Ghetto feeling.. Man, I have had my 67 for like a few years now, and don't have any of those problems.. I have my fair share of problems with my battery, and speaker, or lack thereof; what do you mean about the keyboard? Is it the keys or the entire keyboard?

Re: How to tighten an Apache Keyboard?

Nah. I'm saying the slide out. When you slide open the phone it's loose feeling. I think I might need some torx to tighten it. I'll ask my dad. I don't know much about phone hardware.

Re: How to tighten an Apache Keyboard?

It's probably in the tracks the display slides on. Not real easy to get to those screws without disassembling the whole thing. It's do-able but if it's not broken but loose feeling I'd suggest just putting up with it.

Re: How to tighten an Apache Keyboard?

To get to the torx screws to tighten up the keyboard, you have to remove a lot of items: Battery, Camera cover and board, main board and have to unplug the ribbon that connects the keyboard to the mainboard.

Then you have 4 torx t-6 screws (2 per track) to tighten up.

It can be done but it takes time and patience. Biggest issue is making sure you don't snap off the volume tab on the volume control on the main board. If the case volume slider is not in the middle when you put the main board back in, it can get snapped off very easily.

Check out my sig link to disassemble the 6700.

Re: How to tighten an Apache Keyboard?

Well my dad didn't have any small enough so I went to Radio Shack and they didn't have any either. Then tried Sears and they didn't have any. I'm gonna try to see if my Grandpa has some. Looks like it's not too hard just time comsuming, while I'm at it I'm gonna to take the nice buttons from my other 6700 and put them on this one.

Re: How to tighten an Apache Keyboard?

I did it I did it I did it yeah! I took this whole thing apart and replaced the front buttons with the one off my other phone! I'm in love with my apache again! We'll see how long it lasts this time. And BTW, it's harder to break off the volume slider than it is not to. Also no need to pull your hair trying to find any t-6 torx. I used a small flat screwdriver my grandpa had.

Hey,
Glad you got it going.. Eventually, I will take this apart and try to fix some things.. Right now, it is waiting for a Touch Pro, so it has a job to do until then.

Cool, I wanted the Diamond but I didn't know the CDMA version would look so cheap
