dreaded sync error

I started getting the sync error on my windows mobile device center today with the error code 0x86000107. I removed mobile device center, rebooted and reinstalled. Same problem. I unchecked all of the items to sync and added them one at a time and I only get this error when I have the contacts checked. Any ideas how to correct that other than a hard reset?

Re: dreaded sync error

Format the HDD and load XP could be another option, just kidding though really. IDK anything else really. Did you google the error code and see what you found in the MS KB?

Re: dreaded sync error

It's a problem with Outlook. Try the repair function in Outlook. Then run scanpst.

Then try deleting partnerships on phone and PC with soft reset of phone and reboot of PC. Then remaking partnership. Backup contacts with PIMBackup b4.

If none of those work, you might have to mess more with the .pst file:
http://support.microsoft.com/kb/829971
Archive off your old .pst file b4 creating new to avoid data loss.

Re: dreaded sync error

Oh, and I suppose you could have a corrupt contact that you added or that got synced to the PC. If you know about when you started having the problem, u could delete contacts to that time frame.

Re: dreaded sync error

I have found syncing contacts with HOTMAIL or YAHOO can mess up your contact sync with outlook... My solution (after backing up) has been to delete all contacts from outlook on the PC, delete the patnership, recreate the partnership adding the contacts from the phone to outlook... Sync problem disappear (until I try syncing with other services again

Re: dreaded sync error

I don't sync contacts to Yahoo but I do to Live. So far no issues with Live. Knock on wood.

Re: dreaded sync error

Well I finally had some time to do some troubleshooting. I have a clean vista build and put office on and created a new pst and told the sync options to replace the one on the desktop. I still get the error if contacts are enabled. This tells me that the error is on the ppc6700 as I had an empty pst to work with this time. Is there a quick way to delete just the contacts in the contact database on the ppc6700 so that I can rebuild it?

Re: dreaded sync error

That file is called PIM.vol on the 6700. I think if you rename that to PIM.old and soft reset the 6700, it will make a new, empty one. Not exactly sure, though, but vaguely remember something like that. Search around or google to be sure or maybe someone else can verify. So, theoretically, if you sync with PC Outlook (Outlook.pst where all your contacts are) they should go to Mobile Outlook (PIM.vol). But sometimes, they get erased from both places so make sure you back up your "good" .pst file. Depends on what it syncs/replaces with, the empty file or full file. You can't really specify anymore what device to override with like you used to. That was MS's "improvement".

Maybe the workaround is to have atleast one contact in the empty 6700 contacts that will trigger AS to make them the same. So sync what you can from the "bad" 6700 file to the PC (calendar, tasks). Then sync everything (contacts, calendar, and tasks) to the "new" 6700 file. That should get you back with any luck.
