I'm having the same problem.. it'll go dark (usually when I leave PIEPlus alone for a few minutes) and then won't turn itself back on. I can see the screen working, but the backlight is turned all the way down.

if you hold the suspend key for about 2 seconds does it cause the same effect?

if you hold the suspend key for 2 seconds when you experience the problem, does the problem resolve?

If I hold the suspend key, yes, it turns off and back on... but this problem happens fairly randomly, and I noticed that the screen does come back on, but the backlight has turned itself all the way down to nothing...

i had the problem long ago but was caused by an app that i installed. i wish i could remember which one it was so i could at least point you in some kind of direction.

Nope. I don't have much use for profiles. I'm using O2 Plus, BatteryStatus, and that's about it.

sorry, i don't have more for ya. if you are willing i am curious if it persists beyond ##rtn#. if you already have then see if you can get it replaced. if you have never rtn'd it then you will need your msl and msid.

Fixing the backlight timeout

This happened to me too but I finally figured out what causes it and how to fix it...

Cause (for me at least) was when I had the 6700 in my jeans pocket instead of a jacket... Apparently the right combination of buttons pressed on the front resets the backlight (And the screen calibration)... My prevent fix is not to put the PDA in my pocket anymore...

Cure is to go in the resistry in BOTH the HKLM and HKCU areas for the ControlPanel/Backlight/BatteryTimeout and change both values to something like 300 (10 minutes)... You might also need to change the LockLevel in both place to 0, but I forget.... Let us know if this helps...
