Excessive rings on caller side

I have a UTstarcom WM6 cooked rom and it seems that when my friends call me, it rings many times on their side and only one or two rings on my side and then goes straight to voicemail. I heard there is a hack or a tweak for this but can't seem to find it.

Can anyone post a link please? thank you

Re: Excessive rings on caller side

Are you running an older version of slide to unlock? That used to cause this problem.

Re: Excessive rings on caller side

But also sometimes when they are calling it is going through the server or tower but your device just havent communicated with the tower in a bit so it takes a bit longer to 'find' you and I think you already know this from what you are saying. So I think this is the hack you are looking for. More are listed here.

Force EV-DO/1X, quicker ring response

To do this, you will need your MSL, which only Sprint (or your provider) can provide you. Verizons cods is 000000 Open up the phone app and dial ##778 (PST). You will be asked to enter your MSL. Enter it, and you will be brought into the provisioning of your phone. From the top left, select Modem Settings. On this page, your Slot Cycle Index (SCI) is how often your phone polls the tower for incoming calls, etc. This value is 1.28 seconds multiplied by 2^value (i.e 0=1.28 secs, 1=2.56secs) with 0 fastest, 7 slowest. The default is 2, but lowering it to 1 hasn't noticeably affected my battery life, and roughly 2.5 second (SCI 1) response time is far more reasonable than roughly 5 seconds (SCI 2).

Also on this page is your preferred operation mode. The Default is Automatic, which is the best available mode (EV that will roll back to 1X when EV is unavailable). There are times when you might be in a fringe area and your mode may cycle frequently and this can seriously drain your battery. Setting this to HDR will force EV-DO only if you demand an EV-DO connection. Changing this setting to CDMA Only will force the phone to ignore an EV-DO tower and maintain only a 1xRTT connection.

Re: Excessive rings on caller side

for the EV-DO quicker response. it seemed that for sprint it's one code, and that for bell mobility it's another. or should I just use the same code for sprint

Re: Excessive rings on caller side

I know the code youre talking about but I cant remember the name of it. There are ways to get it on your own but you also can get Sprint to give it to you.

Re: Excessive rings on caller side

Thanks! I found the program to retrieve my MSL and I changed two value to 1. I also changed the preferred settings to HDR, let's hope my battery life is extended and my rings are shortened.
