Why on earth did HTC not use USB 2.0?????

Ok, so I am pretty proud of myself, having solved the Iguidance AKU 3.5 problem. So naturally I am installing maps.

Only one thing. It is taking a couple of years. I think I will be renewing my sprint contract before this loads up the maps!

So I was wondering, do any of you know what is up with HTC not splurging extra $1 for a 7-year-old USB 2.0 chip on a $600 phone???? Is Activesync to blame? Is it actually USB 2.0 but limited by some strange quirk? What is the scoop?
