Sprint Update before 3.5 update for radio update?

Subject line hints at my question. I'm running an older ROM since it was swapped out (gotta love TEP). Currently on 2.06.00 WWE (2/22/06) with radio 1.12.00 and PRI of 1.17_003. I want to make sure I get the phone priority mode (call interrupts data) as well as data roaming.

Do I need to upgrade to the latest Sprint ROM first, and then upgrade using one of the 3.5 variants (I'm leaning towards Saridnours’), or do the 3.5 updates also have the radio/PRI updates as well?

Custom roms do not include radio rom upgrades and you should never flash any radio upgrade that is not from an official upgrade.

That said, you need to install the 2.06.303 Official Sprint Upgrade found here.

Thanks Colonel. That's what I thought, I just wanted to confirm it (and thanks for the link to make sure I had the latest and greatest). Time for a double upgrade

Man, this site is so awesome! I just came here looking for this exact information, and here it is, already near the top of the screen.

One thing though...

Do I need to do anything to back up my contacts and all that stuff? For some reason, whenever I sync it makes me set up a new partnership. Will I be okay doing this or will I lose all my contacts and calender and stuff?

which verson of activ sync are you using??

When you flash your phone everything goes. Quickest thing to do for contacts is to save your pim file to your card so after the flash and reset you can just replace the pim on the phone with your old one from the phone. The pim is in file explorer under my device.

This is a good thing to do even if you sync to a computer through activ sync just in case something happens, Like your phone getting replaced through TEP.

Hope this helps

I'm using Activesync 4.1. I'll copy that PIM file though, that's a great idea. Thanks for the info!

Yes flash sprints first then big j's. You will no longer have to flash the radio again before any other flash except if there is anew official radio upgrade again.

@ SaltyDawg. You are going to have problems if you try to use pim from AKU 2.x with AKU 3.x. The architecture is not made the same and will cause your phone to hang or contact flashing and closing immediately instead of opening, when you click on contacts. If you have already done this, reflash back to sprints rom, copy the pim back in. sync with your pc, or use exchange server to sync ur contacts (mail2web.com is free), do the upgrade, sync with the exchange server or ur laptop (exchange is faster). Copy pim and save in mem card or pc, then whenever you hard reset or flash a new rom you can just copy pim over. Hope this helps.

I did the sprint before big j when I ran into an issue. The current radio I have is 1.27.00. Is that the latest? Can't I just get the radio only? Thanks

I am so sorry, forgot to mention the latest radio. You do have the latest radio. You can extract just the radio only, but to save complications and errors, it is better to just do the whole thing.
