Re: 6700 Volume button doesnt work? Did I break something?
Well I dont think it can be but only those two tings that you have already mentioned. Either it is broken or it isnt assembled correctly. Let us know what you find.

Re: 6700 Volume button doesnt work? Did I break something?
Oops. I think that volume switch is kind of a touchy, fragile area from the posts I read. Here's the rubber piece post; I guess it isn't super critical:
http://forum.ppcgeeks.com/showthread.php?t=31680&page=2 Seems like alot of ppl are taking theirs apart. Hope you get it back. Edit: In the "Reassembly" from that take apart post When reinserting the main-board there is a little rubber piece on the bottom that falls off. Make sure that's still on there when you put it in. Seat the botttom at an angle. Then make sure the volume control button is lined up with the black tab on the mainboard. If it's not lined up you'll break this tab off when you try to change the volume. That is bad. Last edited by gambatte; 07-13-2008 at 09:44 AM. |

The rubber piece goes over the microphone at the bottom left of the motherboard when the LCD faces down. The slit in it faces the bottom.
The volume control button mates with a little tang that sticks out of the actual volume control switch on the motherboard. If you break the tank off the switch has to be replaced. If you find a source let me know, I broke mine. |

Re: 6700 Volume button doesnt work? Did I break something?
Im not overly concerned but will pull the phone apart. I have a Treo 700wx as my main phone & since this was given as a free phone, I am going to use this as a wifi browser in my house. The volume isnt critical but I will try to get that working again.
I tried the 6700 (borrowed my wifes working one) & it didnt seem to be terribly one handed friendly. I also could swear its slower than the treo. Not much but a little. Thanks, Rich |

Re: 6700 Volume button doesnt work? Did I break something?
The volume slider has a plastic tab that sticks out and when you re-assemble the 6700, you have to make sure the slider on the side (part that is on the outside of the phone) is in the middle. There is a channel for the volume slider to rest in. If the outside slider is not in the center when you snap the motherboard into place, it will break off the tab that sticks out.
I broke one on a a board so speak from experience. Not a huge deal as I hardly ever use the outside volume slider anyway....and it does not keep the unit from working at all. Just lets the plastic volume slider slide up and down at will (no resistance to it).
