Help me disable the outer "send" hardware button.

Is there a known hack/registry edit to completely disable the outside green phone/send button?

I'm on Verizon's plan for data only. If I put the 6700 into my pocket and accidentally hit that button, it sometimes makes unintended phone calls at $0.25 per minute (possibly to the person who sent me the last email I've read...it will use the phone number listed in Contacts that way).

I'm USUALLY pretty good about turning off the device, but I've even had it happen right at the moment that it "wakes up" to check for new mail (every 10 mins).

I want to effectively make that hardware button do NOTHING, ever! IF I ever NEED to make a call with it, I can use the "send" button within the Phone program.

I've asked this before on another forum a few month ago, but only got the response "Lock your phone before you put it in your pocket".

Maybe I can remap the button to do something else?

You are not going to have much luck trying to remap that button--it is programmed deep down in the hardware driver, not in the registry.

Someone may be creative enough to think of some clever thing you could do to keep the phone app from working (maybe try building a rom without cprog.exe?) but I don't understand why you don't just use the phone lock function. You can get an app that will automatically lock the phone on power off, so whenever you turn it back on you have to unlock it before the buttons work.

i wonder, could you roll a rom that has cprog.exe in there, but just renamed to something else that he could launch if needed?

I dunno Carl... it would have to be one of those trial and error things. Honestly I've never encountered someone who wanted to disable the phone before.

I don't think he wants to totally disable the phone, just disable the hardkeys. He said he still wanted to dial out from the phone app. I think he is referring to the data connection turning on accidentally.

Where did he say that colonel?

Anyway, OP maybe try AEButtonPlus and see if that can override the phone send key.

Edit: From the verbage on their site, it looks like AE will work!

I did experiment with an older version of AEButtonPlus, and it did effectively work but didn't like the "feel" of the program. I think that's a lot of program for just the one option I need and I figured if that program has the ability to remap the green "phone" button, then one of you experts can figure out how to do it. If "remapping" is the only option, as opposed to completely disabling it, I think making it mimic the red "End" button would suit my needs.
