funny thing....

well my internet ( AND VOIP) is going to be down for FOUR hours, with no prior notice.... while I was surfing the site... ugh
however, this gave me a chance to learn how to use the modem option of the phone... and I am very impressed with the speeds!!!!
It is much faster than dial up, and so far.... I haven't noticed it being any slower than regular broadband. I know they have broadband speed available, but I thought that was only with the card you put in the laptop. Guess I wouldn't need a card if I had this sucker ready!!

Notes for anyone who has never done this:
select connection type and start the modem program before connecting it to your computer. The driver will not be there, you have to choose a generic modem.
select use dialing rules,
The dialing number (somewhat obvious) for sprint: #777
username: your sprint email address@sprintpcs.com
password: your sprint account password.
15 min of messing around and I have backup internet service horray.

Does anyone happen to know how much sprint will charge for using the internet without any data plan?

3 cents per kilobyte, which will add up fast.

$15 a month is definitely worth it, imo

yes, make sure they don't tell that you need more than the basic power pack at 15/month though. a lot of sprint reps know nothing about the phone and try and include the highest plan (crap we don't need cause windows can handle it) and for me, they even try to include their stupid GPS program, even though the ppc 6700 has no built in GPS and if it did, I would find a 3rd part program for it, not 30 dollars a month.

It's a little off opic here, but the 6700 defintely DOES have a true GPS chip in it. It was however disabled from HTC at carriers request. You can find all the info you ever/never wanted at pdaphone home / 6700 / aGPS data thread.

And before you tell me something about no it doesn't, or aGPS isn't a GPS chip, READ the thread. Especially the last page or two.

This is something I would really love to get running on our devices, even aGPS would be fine for my needs. But it seems someone with more skills than I will be needed if this is ever to get off the ground.
