custom ROMs for relatively new beginners

There are so many of the custom AKU 3.x ROMs out there. I am a beginner in the mobile world (verizon vx6700) but may want to get a upgraded ROM (or should i wait for WM6??). is there a way to know which is the most stable, used, ROM out there that will not screw up my verizon 6700 basic functioning? looking for a little directional help. or am i going to run into a coke v pepsi war here? thanks

the biggest and piece of advice: Read! if you read any of the other posts around here you'll find out that WM6 isn't coming to the Apache (and if it does I wouldn't believe it until I see it!) Really though, the best way to find out which is the best rom is to just read the topics about each rom. I know they're long but its worth it. and please don't just ask questions because you're to lazy to read. If you can't find the answere then go ahead and ask, but chances are good your question has already been answered. Figure out what you mainly want out of your ppc and find a rom that fits it best. a lot of roms include lots of different apps and goodies so make sure to get the details which are usually listed in the first post of the topic.

Most of the ROMs that are carrier specific have different versions for Sprint and Verizon. You don't want to load a Sprint ROM onto your Verizon phone! (if you do, it shouldn't damage your phone, and you can recover by loading a [Verizon in your case] ROM).

good point gguruusa. Also, the name of the post which tells you what rom it is usually specifies which carrier it is for. If it doesn't say in the name of the post then it should in the first post. Some will work with all carriers only because the carrier specific items are taken out of the extended rom so they won't load on a hard reset. This is a really post that has gathered most if not all the roms together for easy viewing. I don't really think its a coke vs. pepsi war kinda thing here. You will have users that like certain roms much better than other roms but thats because it suites their tastes (sorry for the bad pun) better.
