Thank you ?GotJazz? and luv2chill for your help, and sorry I couldn't respond sooner (the site was apparently down yesterday afternoon). USB tethering to my work laptop (using personal PPC-6700) is a big convenience to me from time to time, and I was worried that I might lose that capability with some of the 3+ ROMs.

Yeah, the Kirvin ROM gives the COM OPEN error every single time I try to initiate a USB session.
ICS isn't working either. I think I'm just going to wait for the official PPCG 3.5... |

I can't get USB ICS to work either. It says its connected... but then when I try and browse with my computer, it just keeps saying it can't connect to anything.
EDIT: Unless I'm doing something wrong, I just can't figure this out. I open up the internet sharing, hit connect, then connect the USB cable to my PC. It shows the little connection icon down in the system tray like it does when its trying to establish a network connection... then the activesync icon starts spinning and comes up about a minute later saying it can't connect to the device and to troubleshoot. And that's that. It doesn't do anything else. Also, the weird thing is that when I connect it, Windows pops up a message saying it doesn't recognize the USB device connected because its malfunctioned and to replace the device? I find it hard to believe... it tells me that almost every time I connect the PPC to the computer in any way. Its done that ever since the first time it got put in boot loader mode. |

Activesync on the PC is not supposed to connect when you're using ICS. When you enable ICS on the phone and connect it to your laptop, your laptop sees the phones as a virtual network device. If you look in Network Places or whatever it's called you should see a new Local Area Network with the description of Windows Mobile or something like that. I'd make sure that the routing and ip info is correct when connected to ICS on the phone.
ipconfig should show you an ip , if it starts with 169 then ICS didn't give your computer the proper ip. netstat -rvn, look for the 0.0.0.0 entry, the gateway column should show the ip listed in the ipconfig command above. ICS works fine for me, it's the VPN that doesn't seem to work. I verified that the packets are leaving the interface actually using ethereal, but I see no response from the VPN server. |

You can help activesync not get confused... before you connect your ppc, open activesync connection settings and uncheck USB connection and that should keep AS from freaking out on you.
